Debt Relief - Do You Benefit From Your Cell Phone Contract?
By Steven Turner
A few months ago I canceled my Cell Phone Contract and ever since I can honestly say that I am better off because of it. I was one of the many that had my phone glued to my ear every two minutes and I was more than happy to text the planet in order to let everyone know the plans for the weekend. Well It was costing me a kings ransom each month and now I pay next to nothing for my communications.
With my cell phone contract I had the monthly charge and some free minutes that were not enough to see me through each month. So basically I was paying for the privilege of having a connection to the network, something that pay as you go customers get for free! FOR FREE, let me put that a way so it makes sense, you pay your contract they access the network with no contract! Or you get ripped off with a monthly payment they can sit on a few minutes credit and still use the same network. (Not really fair is it?)
So here is what I did, I purchased a pay as you go SIM for my cellular phone and put $10 on it credit which I was told would remain on the phone until it was completely used. I gave all my friends my new number and told them that was how they could contact me for anything. I set up my email account with mailing lists so if I wanted to tell everyone what was going on I could email them out the details from my laptop.
I then set up Skype on my laptop. Now if you haven't used this it allows you to make phone calls to other computers for free and allows you to call land lines and mobiles at a much reduced rate. (This is no the only VOIP service available on the internet but it is one of the most reliable I have found). In using this system I have managed to save myself a fortune on contacting my friends using electronic methods rather than calling or sending text messages.
So now my monthly telecoms bill is around $15 where as on contract I was racking up about $120 a month! A few minor sacrifices from myself and my friends and hey presto we are saving money. So have a think are you benefiting from your cell phone contract?
