Busy Woman's Simple, Health Tips

By Kristen Van Beaver

As women, we need to be healthy so we have the energy to help those around us, particularly our family, children, and friends. Yet, many women find it hard to eat healthy when they're so busy with life's tasks. Although eating healthy may take a little more thought and time at first, once you start it will become a habit and will become quite simple to do regularly. You'll feel so good that you'll want to continue eating well!

As women, we need particular vitamins more than men because of our unique bodies and our childbearing ability. We need calcium, folic acid, and iron as well as folate, zinc, magnesium, B vitamins (for handling stress), and of course omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. You can obtain all the vitamins you need by simply paying attention to what you eat. If you're on a diet, or just want to ensure that you get your 100% daily value, take a multi-vitamin.

Here are some ways to ensure that you're getting the vitamins and fiber you need in food. Also, learn some tips on how to eat healthy and lose weight.

• High fiber cereal. When grocery shopping, chose oatmeal or high fiber cereal with 7 grams of fiber per serving. Fiber helps you feel full, helps your body digest food regularly, and helps fight cancer.

• O.J. with added calcium. Choose orange juice or other drinks that are calcium-fortified. These will help your bones be strong to avoid osteoporosis and help you combat PMS symptoms. Plus, orange juice just tastes good in the morning!

• Happy berries. Throw in some blueberries on your yogurt, oatmeal, or cereal in the morning for a breakfast or snack with tons of antioxidants. The antioxidants in blueberries help slow down your aging clock. Or add strawberries, raspberries, or blackberries for more fiber and antioxidants to help your body fight off diseases!

• Apples and nuts. Try eating an apple and a few nuts for your afternoon snack. The protein from the nuts and low calorie fruit is the perfect snack to keep your metabolism up and your energy sustained throughout the day. Try making other snacks with protein and low amount of carbs, such as celery and peanut butter, whole-wheat crackers and hummus, or hard-boiled eggs and fruit. If you're an apple fanatic like me, try apple and peanut butter or apple and cheese.
• Dipped veggies. Eat low-calorie vegetables, like carrots, celery, and red and green onions in some ranch or cheese dip. Make your own for fewer calories.

• Whole grains. Buy whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, and whole grain snacks. You'll add more fiber to your diet, which will help you feel fuller longer from the nutrients. Make sure that the first ingredient is not "enriched" flour but "ground whole wheat flour."

• Fish. Eating tuna or salmon once or twice a week is the perfect way to get your source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (better than buying a supplement). Whenever possible, try to choose wild fish because it has more omega-3 fats and more nutrients, plus it just tastes better fresh. Salmon can help with women problems, such as preventing PMS cramps, depression, and other health problems such as macular degeneration (a cause of blindness), fatal heart attacks, and possibly even breast cancer.

• Chocolate indulgence. Most women love chocolate, at least I do! Luckily for all us chocolate-lovers, dark chocolate and cocoa have less fat than milk chocolate and more antioxidant power than tea. The flavonoids in cocoa can keep blood platelets from clotting, which may prevent heart attacks. Plus, the milk in hot cocoa is perfect for getting your calcium intake and strengthening your bones. Get your daily chocolate indulgence and feel good about it!

For those of you looking to lose weight, follow the above advice and read on to learn a few more weight-friendly tips.

• Drink More Water. Drinking more water will aid your body in digestion, and you're your hair, skin, and nails beautiful. Not to mention that it helps you eat less, have more energy and is the perfect addition to a weight loss plan. Carry bottled water everywhere you go, and drink more when you exercise.

• Low-Fat? Rather than jumping on the fad diet train, and focusing on low-fat food, focus on eating healthy food. If you are eating higher fat or higher calorie food, enjoy them in the mornings. Don't eat something just because it's low-fat, chances are you're eating more sugar than you should be and still doing damage to your body.

• Exercise. Everyone knows that you have to exercise to lose weight. What you may not know is that it doesn't have to be agonizing or boring. Break your 30 minute exercise per day into 10 minute segments. Find something you enjoy, like dancing to your favorite music, walking to the park or around your neighborhood, swimming, biking, running, or anything else you enjoy. Make it fun, whether it's a kickboxing class with friends or a quick run around the block. Just get started!

• Take a weight loss supplement. Dieting is tough work, and many of us lose motivation fast. To increase your motivation, take a weight loss supplement like Akavar 20/50. It will help you eat less, and help you lose pounds faster which in turn will motivate you to keep going! When combined with a healthy diet and exercise, a weight loss supplement is a healthy way to lose weight.

• Keep track. Keep a food and exercise journal so you can track your progress. This will help you target why you have or have not lost weight and emphasize good behavior. It will also help you pinpoint overeating or emotional eating issues you may have. Make it fun and include your feelings or pictures to keep you motivated.

These tips will keep all you women healthy so you have enough energy to run around for the years ahead. Being healthy is all about moderation, and feeling good for yourself and life. When we're healthy, we have energy, more confidence, and we're happy!

An Overview Of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets)

By Amy Derr

It has been almost ten years since CSS was first introduced to the World Wide Web and till today, Web developers and designers have not ceased to sing its praises. CSS, which stands for Cascading Style Sheets, is a stylesheet language which has been sort of a revelation for both, Web developers and designers alike. The reason for this is apparent - CSS has made Web design so much simpler by separating document structure from style. A simple process nonetheless, but the benefits reaped are profound, as you'll soon see.

As a stylesheet language, CSS requires a document written in markup language to perform its tasks. The best known markup language today is HTML, short for HyperText Markup Language. Almost everybody who has ever used the Internet has heard of HTML, even if they aren't professional Web designers. Every webpage is powered by this language and variants of it.

But, if you had been an early adopter of the Web back in the early 90s, you can attest to the fact that HTML was really bare-boned. Reason being, it was originally conceived to describe only parts of a document and had very little concern for appearance and presentation. Then came Mosaic and HTML was forced to evolve into something more than just a structural markup language due to the increasing demands for better web presentations.

Web developers and designers were clamoring for HTML to contribute more functionality like boldfacing and italicizing texts, something HTML wasn't equipped to do. But that didn't stop HTML from introducing new elements like and into its language in an attempt to satisfy the masses. The results as expected, were frustrating.

Websites were being built with extraneous HTML elements at the expense of useful content, which presented a few considerable issues, mainly, unstructured Web pages. Unstructured Web pages made and still make content indexing in search engines very grueling and this was certainly something that Web businesses seeking coveted high search engine rankings were concerned about.

What may appear to be an innocuous tag used in place of a H1 tag for page titles, can have disastrous consequences as far as search engine optimization is concerned. This can mean the difference between attaining the number one spot on Google's front page, or not being indexed at all, something that in today's new economics of commerce, can either make or break a business.

But just when website owners were resigned to the fact of having to cope with bloated HTML code on their sites, CSS presents itself with aplomb. Though it made its grand entrance onto the World Wide Web in 1996, CSS is only now starting to be recognized by the masses as a necessary element of any Web design process. Here's why.

CSS removes the presentational markup burden that HTML had to carry and allows HTML to perform what it does best - structural markup. So, what CSS does is create a much richer document appearance by separating presentation and structure. This is a sample of what CSS is capable of:
  • Allows you to define the color on text
  • Allows you to define the color of any element
  • Gives you control over spacing of elements
  • Allows you to create borders around elements
Gives you control over the presentational style of texts. You can very easily capitalize, italicize, bold, underline, or space texts as you see fit.

Perhaps the most telling contribution of CSS is the amount of time it saves a Web designer. Where in HTML, a Web designer had to explicitly describe the presentational attributes, often repeatedly throughout the document, CSS only requires a separate stylesheet. This stylesheet acts as the centralized command center for the entire document's styles. This also makes it extremely easy for a website owner to make changes to his or her site without having to trouble the designer for a simple tweak in heading color.

This is also a huge advantage for website owners who manage large content-based sites of over a thousand pages. Because this single stylesheet can be applied to multiple pages simply by linking it, a website owner can achieve a very consistent look throughout the website and make changes to thousands of pages by editing only a single line on the stylesheet. Without CSS, this process would have necessitated a visit to every single one of those thousand or more pages to make that simple edit. Now you see why Web designers are so fond of CSS.

This element of a single stylesheet has also allowed websites to become much smaller in size, having been stripped of all that bloated code that HTML was once guilty of serving. Lighter weight websites mean faster download and loading speeds for Web users, which can only mean that it'll only be a matter of time before they too join in with Web designers in the song of praise for CSS.

Islam and Honor Killings

By Zaid Shakir

One of the gravest charges levied against Islam, in terms of its alleged antipathy towards women, is the charge that it encourages a phenomenon known as honor killings. This un-Islamic practice consists of the murder of female family members who are seen as dishonoring their families through real or perceived acts, such as premarital sexual relations or unapproved dating.

This practice has absolutely no sanction in the Qur'an, the Prophetic practice, or in the evolved systems of Islamic law. In the case of fornication or adultery, the only way a charge can be levied against an individual, male or female, is through confession, which is discouraged, or by four people actually witnessing the male organ penetrating the female. Even if four people witnessed a naked man engaged with a naked woman, but could not actually testify that they witnessed penetration, their testimony would be rejected.

In a somewhat related issue, it should be noted that in three of the four Sunni schools of law, as is the case with all of the major Shiite schools, pregnancy is not a proof of fornication, as the possibility of rape exists in such a case. Therefore, if a single woman were to become pregnant, according to the overwhelming majority of Islamic jurists, there is no basis for punishing her. In the few well-publicized instances where a pregnant woman has been threatened with a punishment, the minority opinion of the Maliki School of law was unjustly evoked, as occurred in Nigeria[1], or criminal malfeasance occurred as is the case in Pakistan[2].

In the case of dating, there is no Islamically-mandated punishment for a male or a female seeing a member of the opposite sex against the wishes of their families. Hence, to kill a female guilty of one of these offenses is not some sort of Islamic punishment, it is cold-blooded murder, and no Islamic authority can argue otherwise.

The overwhelming majority of Muslim societies are free from such practices, although they do endure in some parts of the Middle East and South Asia. According to statistics released by the United Nations in 2000 there are approximately 5,000 deaths annually from "honor" killings.

Even if one death occurred due to such barbarity, it would be one too many, as the Qur'an emphasizes that whoever takes an innocent life without sanction it is as if the murderer has slaughtered the entirety of humanity (5:35).

To use the existence of such killings to smear Islam shows the desperation and misplaced priorities of those levying such attacks. Most of those deaths are the pathetic acts of sick individuals, who are far removed from the letter, as we have briefly shown above, and the spirit of Islam. An example of such an individual is Muhammad Riaz, a British Muslim of South Asian descent who died as a result of a fire he set to burn to death his wife and four daughters, allegedly because his wife resisted his attempt to arrange marriages for his daughters. His wife and daughters did perish in that fire. To present Riaz, whose daughters had neither fornicated nor dated, as anything other than a sick individual is a sad attempt to defame Islam and it teachings.

To attack Islam from this angle is a case of misplaced priorities because it distracts attention from far graver abuses of women that demand immediate redress. For example, the State Department estimates that approximately 800,000 women and girls are trafficked as sexual slaves annually. The overwhelming majority of these females are taken from and sent to nominally Christian countries. In spite of that, it would be disingenuous to use such statistics as an indictment against Christianity or Christian sexual ethics. This existence of such a practice is an affront to humanity and requires our collective attention.

Other issues that involve attacks against the persons and dignity of women such as rape and pornography are epidemic and require the immediate attention of the international community.

Saying this is not to minimize the gravity of so-called honor killings to the extent that they do occur in Muslim societies. As Muslims, we are commanded to be committed to justice. That commitment entails that as a community we oppose in the strongest terms "honor" killings and take immediate action to end such a practice in our communities. Practical steps include the following:

1. Emphasize that such killings have no sanction in the Qur'an, the Prophetic practice, or in Islamic law.
2. Declare anyone guilty of involvement in honor killings to be a cold-blooded murderer.
3. Encourage judicial authorities to enact the harshest punishments possible for anyone accused of involvement in such killings.
4. Educate our Muslim communities about the un-Islamic nature of honor killings, and the pressures, nuances, challenges and complications facing young Muslims in the West.
5. Work to eliminate the double standards and hypocrisy that exist in our communities, generally, concerning attitudes and standards relating to the indiscretions of males as opposed to females.

In conclusion, Islam honors the female, and values femininity. It is up to every Muslim to translate theoretical teachings in that regard into a beautiful reality that helps to elevate the status of women in all societies.

Notes
1 In cases where the Maliki school is evoked, I describe that as unjustly because every effort should be made to ward off accusation of a crime in such cases. If the majority opinion does that then it should be the basis of the ruling.

2 In the Pakistani cases the Hanafi school of law, which is universally followed in Pakistan, discounts the existence of pregnancy as a basis for proof of fornication or adultery. Hence, any effort to punish a woman who comes up pregnant, especially due to rape, is a crime and a perversion of justice.

Aluminum Made Harder Than Steel?

By William Gunnar

Anodizing is a common process in the finishing industry for electrolytic treatment of metals to form stable films or coatings on the metal's surface. Anodized aluminum or magnesium, for example, are typically associated with functional coatings like hard anodize, also known as 'hardcoat'.

In this process, unlike electroplating, the work is made the anode, and its surface is converted to a form of its oxide that is integral with the metal substrate.

Generally, it's agreed that the ceramic oxide coating consists of two layers:

The initial layer, which forms right at the surface, is called the barrier layer. It is a comparatively thin, dense, and nonporous form of aluminum oxide.

Next form the outer, heavier layers of the anodic coating. They are more porous and are stacked somewhat like parallel tubes extending through the layer, from the outermost surface down nearly to the barrier layer.

It's important to recognize that, unlike plating, whose thickness accumulates by depositing more and more onto the outermost surface, the anodic layers form by oxygen transfer from the underlying aluminum surface and force existing layers outward.

This means that oxides newest forming are always located between the metal surface and the last, most recently formed alumina oxide. Consequently, the greater the thickness, the lower the density of coating at the outermost surfaces, based on longer solvent action of the electrolyte. Consequently, for maximum wear resistance, more is not always better.

A factor to consider in your design, such as close tolerance bores, bearing diameters, dowel holes or threads, is that the resultant growth portion of the coating is a fractional percentage of the total coating thickness. Hard anodize, for example, will typically result in 50% penetration and 50% buildup.

Keep in mind that buildup is normal or perpendicular to the surface and sharp corners should be rounded to avoid chipping.

To anodize aluminum, one of the most important factors influencing oxide formation is composition of alloy. Reaction of all the various possible alloying or impurity constituents can result in coating voids or disruptions, while other constituents may themselves oxidize in the conditions of anodizing and lessen the intended properties.

Depending on electrolyte, a wide range of thickness can be obtained. Coatings produced in sulfuric acid electrolyte, for example, can be as low as 0.0001 inch (2.5 um) to as high as 0.003 inch (75 um).

Anodic coatings have a definite cellular structure. Imagine individual cells with pores down their centers totaling millions per square inch. This makes for excellent dyeing and sealing. Sealing processes make the coatings non-absorptive and include, immersion in boiling de-ionized water, steam, or nickel acetate.

De-ionized water is often preferred as a sealing solution for its ability to react with anhydrous aluminum in the outer layers of the film. A mono-hydrate of the oxide is formed, which occupies greater volume than the alumina from which it was formed. The result is a reaction to close down and plug the pore structure.

Structures of hard anodizing can be supplemented with a variety of materials, including Teflon (PTFE) waxes, oils and other compounds, to lower friction or add release (nonstick). And because these compounds penetrate the ceramic, their added surface growth is oftentimes negligible.

Want to make a better product? Or simply, make it faster, more reliably, with less scrap? Where ever your surface engineering takes you William Gunnar shares your goal in surface performance!

How to Find a Global Resorts Network Team

By Jameson Ryan

Global Resorts Network has given many people the opportunity to develop a passive stream of income that rivals the paychecks of doctors and lawyers. Some people within the network have even been able to surpass the income levels of many corporate CEOs.

Anyone with a good head on their shoulders knows that not everyone within this opportunity is able to create these types of paychecks. In all reality, the historical data of the network marketing industry indicate that only 95% of people succeed while the other 5% fail.

Still, many people are attracted to network marketing because there is the very real possibility of developing an incredibly lucrative income stream. Yet history has shown us that the vast majority of people aren't able to duplicate the success of the guys at the top of the industry.

The good news for those people looking into Global Resorts Network is that network marketing has evolved in many ways. The newest network marketing companies are built around products and payment plans that allow members to buck that trend and skew the historical data. Global Resorts Network in particular has a product at the top of its industry and a payment plan that actually gives its leaders a real financial incentive to put time and resources into ensuring the success of their down-line.

Unfortunately change happens slowly, and not every team within Global Resorts Network sees the value in putting these concrete resources into fully developing and training their down-line. Some of the new recruits are left out to dry and not given the necessary resources to succeed in this very lucrative business.

Before joining global resorts network, prospective members must do their due diligence and find a team and a sponsor that are dedicated to their success. The search for such a team can be daunting, all the top teams seem to make the same promises.

So how does one make that important decision? When joining global resorts network, one must find a team that will put actual dollars into driving them sales. This financial commitment is the only way to truly know if a team has a true dedication to its members success. Once one is able to find such a team, their entry into the business will be as painfree as possible and they will be well on their way to financial freedom.

Wedding Bands - How To Buy On A Budget

By Dan Dimeco

For couples on a tight budget, something more than traditional plain wedding rings may seem out of the question. Fortunately, there are many new choices for great looking cheap wedding bands. One way to save is choosing the right type of metal for your rings. A little planning in this area can go a long way to saving you money and getting the desired look and feel you want.

If you have absolutely no extra money to spend, silver is your best option. Although silver is a lot cheaper than wedding bands made of other metals, it is really soft. This means that rings made of silver can scratch and dent easily. Silver will also get tarnished over time. In the long run, you will probably be happier avoiding pure silver and going for a more durable metal.

Gold is still the most common metal for making wedding rings. Look for 14-karat gold. In addition to being more durable than pure gold, it will be cheaper than just about any other metal than silver.

Platinum is a beautiful metal that is a strong, malleable and is highly resistant to wear and tear. Platinum wedding bands dent or scratch less than those made of gold or silver. Platinum is a hypoallergenic metal and this makes it ideal for people with sensitive skin. The downside of platinum is the cost. High quality platinum rings are made out of 85 to 99.9 percent platinum. This makes them the most expensive.

Tungsten wedding bands are a good choice because of durability, quality and cost. Rings made of tungsten have a natural shine and are resistant to scratches and dents. Tungsten is also a pure metal, so it is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction on your skin. For active couples, tungsten is the way to go.

For men especially titanium wedding bands are very popular. Hammered titanium has a very rugged look and makes many men feel more comfortable about wearing jewelry. For a very masculine ring, take a look at black titanium.

There is no one style that is cheaper. This is strictly up to your tastes. If you want your bands to have diamonds or other special designs, be ready to pay a bit extra. One way to save money is to consider other gemstones besides diamond. They will look as good and often cost far less. For example, Moissanite is a material that looks nearly identical to diamond but cost far less.

These are just a few of the options you have when buying your wedding bands. With a little knowledge and good shopping smarts, you can find great looking wedding rings on a budget. Plan ahead and check out both online and offline stores to find what's just right for you. Just remember this one final tip. These are the jewelry that you will hopefully wear the rest of your life. No matter you are going to buy, they should be something both you and your partner will enjoy together.

Christmas Decorating - Inspired By Nature

By Deborah Goulekas

Nature's holiday signature . . . fragrant pine or fur tree branches displayed in a beautiful vase. Add twigs with red berries, pine cones, hints of gold, red ribbons and you've created a festive Christmas atmosphere for family and guests. Duplicate these arrangements throughout your home for the holidays, adding ornaments, scented candles and various accessories.

The entire family should participate in the decorating process. Long walks in the forest several days before Christmas will generate nature-inspired decorating ideas for the fire place mantle and dining room table. Collect an assortment of twigs, nuts, pine cones and interesting-looking pine branches for your displays. Consider spray-painting dried twigs with an antique gold finish.
The possibilities for nature-inspired decorating are endless and involvement of family in this activity breeds purpose and togetherness. . . the essence of Christmas spirit. The holidays are far more meaningful with participation.

It is recommended the bag containing collected forest materials be lightly sprayed with insect repellent and left to sit for half an hour before the creation process. You may not need to buy a base for your decoration - old pottery can be spray-painted to compliment colors in the arrangement. When using materials, remember not to build your dining room display too high or views across the table will become obstructed. Vibrancy is what draws attention to decoration and oranges and lemons are a nice compliment to greenery. Contrast of color creates an exceptional-looking table . . . white, red or green table cloths can create this effect.

Nature-inspired Christmas decorating has been around for centuries and much of our decorations today are imitation versions of the real thing. Homes touched by nature are ones where the true essence of Christmas spirit lives on.

Should You Use a Personal Trainer?

By Jess Harley

Personal Trainers were a thing for the rich and famous. Nowadays you can get one at almost any gym. In fact most gyms and their high pressured sales people will probably try to convince you to add a trainer to your membership. The cost is not included in your membership and it can be very expensive. There are some things though you should look at before you decide who you are going to use as your personal trainer. A lot of people like to use them because the biggest pro to them is they motivate you and help you create a program that is right for you.

You do not have to belong to a gym to take advantage of a personal trainer. If you do belong to a gym, chances are you will be assigned a trainer and will have to assume that they have all the proper credentials. While it can save you the hassle of finding a trainer, the downside to being assigned a trainer is that you do not know if you mesh well together. If you do not belong to a gym or you do not belong to a gym that offers personal trainers, you can ask around for recommendations or you can look in your paper or even online. There are many types of trainers out there; some will come right to your home while others will ask you to come to them.
The most important thing though to look at is if they are certified and have a degree in the exercise/nutrition field. You also want to make sure your trainer has a CPR and First Aid certification too. Do not be afraid to ask them to see a copy of their cards so you can make sure they are current.

You should always meet with a trainer before you sign up with them. This way you can ask those questions such as what their experience is and their motivational techniques. Some trainers use a tough love motivation while others try to be a little more understanding. Finding out which one they use will help you decide which method will motivate you more. You can also ask them how they plan to help you reach your goals as far as a workout plan and a meal plan. You can also find out what kind of packages they offer and if they have payment plans. These questions are important to make sure you have a trainer who will work well for you. After all you are paying them a lot of money and you don't want to get a trainer who does nothing for you.

If you meet with a trainer who begins to talk about supplements or any sort of diet pills they would recommend for you, politely thank them for their time and leave. These trainers are earning a commission for products they sell and may not have your best interest at heart.
Using a personal trainer can be a great way to get you on the right track for your fitness and workout. They will show you the best way to work out and what the right form is for strength training. Some people may benefit from one or two sessions with a trainer, while others might need them every step of the way. The chose is yours and do not let anyone pressure you into using a trainer if you are not ready to.

PC to Phone - Making International Calls Cheaper

By Angela Hayden

With the passage of time, the Internet has become all pervasive. People in the present day world are dependent on the web as much for accessing information as for their daily dose of entertainment. However, the most recent application of the Internet pertains to communication. Cheap long distance calls are now possible due to the emergence of Internet telephony and PC to phone solutions.

People across the globe are using their personal computers, an Internet connection and latest VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services to make cheap long distance calls. This way, they do not have to pay exorbitantly for communicating with their near and dear ones, located in different parts of the globe. A number of Internet telephony companies are coming up which offer innovative PC phone solutions to cater to this growing demand.

There are quite a few merits of using PC-to-phone solutions. The overall quality of PC to Phone calls is satisfactory, especially when the same is delivered over a broadband connection. The savings one can accrue using VoIP PC to phone solutions are significant, especially if one has the habit of making frequent long distance international calls. Moreover, some other Internet and telecommunication services are made available that users can access in addition to the telephony solutions. E-mail, voice mail, faxing and video conferencing are some of these specialised services - which are made available to the subscribers at industry leading costs. In addition, the security issues are well taken care of by the service providers and users generally do not have any reason to worry.

However, the degree of congestion on the Internet when a person dials could have an adverse impact on the call quality. The installation of the right equipment would take care of this problem. A computer equipped with a fast processor would suit the bill perfectly. A sound card that allows both the parties to communicate at the same time and a headset with a built-in microphone would also go a long way in improving call quality. The headset would reduce the echoes caused by feedback from speakers.

Last but not the least, PC-to-phone solutions from a reputed VoIP Solution provider is often the best bet. One can then make cheap international calls at unbeatable prices; and the net phoning experience is guaranteed to be more than satisfactory.

Disneyland at Christmas

By Tracy Crowe

Christmas is a wonderful, magical time of year. It is a time of happiness and of creating joyful memories. Disneyland is a wonderful, magical, happy place, where one creates joyful memories. To experience Christmas at Disneyland, would enhance both of them.

Disneyland takes on a special look at Christmas. Although it is crowded for this season, the crowds are manageable if you plan ahead. The winter's biggest crowds are over Thanksgiving weekend and from Christmas Eve to New Years, but even in December before Christmas Eve it can be crowded. It would be a good idea if you are going for more than one day, to buy your Disneyland tickets online in advance. It is also wise to use Ridemax to avoid standing in line. If you are interested in tours such as the "Walk in Walt's Footsteps Tour", you should reserve them more than a month in advance at 714-781-4400. Reservations for Disneyland restaurants should be made at least two weeks, and preferably up to a month, in advance at 714-781-3463
The Christmas decorations at Disneyland are best in Toontown and New Orleans Square, although they are found throughout the park. In Town Square, at the end of Main Street, there is a 60 ft. Christmas tree covered with thousands of lights and ornaments. In New Orleans Square, every alcove and balcony is decorated for Christmas, and each lamp post is decorated with a different color scheme.

There are all kinds of special things to see and do at Disneyland at Christmas. Here are a few ideas:

1) You can enjoy the holiday makeover of "It's a Small World". There are colorful wreaths and garlands, each one detailed and unique, decorating the promenade leading up to the attraction. At night the facade looks magical with over 300,000 colorful lights. When you go inside, each country is decorated for Christmas and it is fun to try to spot the clever details of the holiday traditions. The theme song is blended with Jingle Bells, Deck the Halls, and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

2) You can watch the holiday fireworks and snow. The red and green fireworks are shot off above Sleeping Beauty's castle, accompanied by music. The best places to see them would be facing the castle, on a bench, preferably closer to Tomorrowland than Frontierland, so that the fireworks will look like they're behind the castle. Plan on waiting an hour or two for a prime spot on a bench, especially in the snowfall locations. Pick up a map of the park at the gate to find out where the selected spots are that snow will fall just after the fireworks end. As "White Christmas" is played, icicles appear on the castle and snow starts swirling around.

3) You can watch the Disney Christmas parade travel down Main Street (the most crowded but the most beautiful place to see it is the Main Street train station platform), through Fantasyland and towards the Town Square. Check the entertainment schedule when you arrive to find out the parade times and which direction it will be going in. Disney princes and princesses, as well as other Disney characters, are joined by marching nutcrackers, toy soldiers, and dancing snowmen. Santa himself is riding on a giant sleigh.

4) You can enjoy the Christmas carolers who travel around the park performing popular Christmas tunes from around the world. They, muffs and all, perform traditional carols up and down Main Street. Check in the daily entertainment schedule for their performance times.

5) You can enjoy great Christmas food on Main Street. Children, for about five dollars, can get and decorate a large sugar cookie with a choice of two frostings and two sprinkles. Watch out for the blue icing, it will permanently dye your lips. You can get gingerbread men at the Blue Ribbon Bakery during November and December. Every Friday in December you can get fresh candy canes at the Main Street candy shop. You can even watch them making the candy canes through the window of the Candy Kitchen.

Disneyland at Christmas is a magical place at a magical time. There are all kinds of special decorations and activities at Disneyland to celebrate Christmas. As long as you plan ahead, you'll have a wonderful holiday trip. Enjoy.

Healthy Selfish Is Good For Our Personal Budgets

By Alice March

Healthy selfishness is a good thing. The word selfish has gotten a bad rap in our culture. The dictionary says selfish is "concerned chiefly with oneself or excessive regard for one's personal advantage or interest." Stop to think what this really means and then ask yourself, "if we don't take care of ourselves, who will?" Giving ourselves healthy attention means that we have personal living codes that include getting proper nutrition, rest, exercise and whatever we need to be productive, creative and financially stable.

I think too many of us have relinquished our selves in our financial life; we let others look out for our financial interests, by either denying our responsibility or just letting someone else do it for us. As we begin to realize that our financial shape is really a reflection of how we feel about ourselves, we have to be more than conscious and selfish about choosing a team to give us direction and support. Most of us did not have role models who showed us how to invest in ourselves and in our future. This sort of thinking didn't exist. I do remember that my mother suggested to my father, when I was in high school, that they put me on a clothes allowance. My father said that he didn't see the need for that. I wish he had. I probably would have gone through many trials and errors earlier and become more fiscally aware and more skilled at budgeting expenses.

Healthy people find mentors who are fiscally well and successful. Put a team in place, a team to help you with the present and the future of your finances. Feeling vulnerable, admitting you need help, is actually a very powerful place, for it's a place of learning and acceptance. Ask yourself if you're getting the kind of attention that makes you feel safe, visible, supported. Or do you get the kind of attention that makes you feel dismissed, ignored, unequal?

Healthy living means reducing the stress in your life. One way to do this is to think carefully about the financial questions you ask and be sure you understand the answers you get. When you're selfish enough to give yourself the kind of attention that brings you the best of support, encouragement and knowledge, you'll decrease your stress level, sleep better at night and enjoy the end of your months more!!!
