Let The Teens Manage Their Money

By Florencio Jr Sevilla

One of the reasons why teens love to work is that they want to have their own income. Teens want to have discretionary funds they can use without their parents poking at them and auditing all their cents. If the parents would let their teenagers manage their own money, they should be ready to give them advises on money management such as budgeting and fund management. In this way, they can be sure that their teens will not just squander their money on less important things.

The following may help the teens manage their money:

Teach the teens to save
Encourage the teens to open a savings account to deposit their earnings. Even just a few dollars a week will be good enough. If their parents are giving them allowances, they can talk to them and ask them to set aside some dollars in the bank. When the time comes that they need to withdraw, they will be amazed to see how much money they have saved.

Teens must spend wisely
The biggest nightmare among the teens is to wake up with nothing to spend, yet the next allowance is still a few days away. They will be forced to borrow and this will only add more problems. Spending wisely is a must especially to those with tight budget. If the school is just a walking distance, they should be happy to take a walk and enjoy that needed exercise. Need to go dating? Why not ask their crushes to have a chat with them in the park, this way they don't need to spend much. A can of soda could do the trick.

Introduce the teens to fund management
There are many plans of fund management that are available to teens. With a few dollars, the teens can have the opportunity to increase their money under the watchful eyes of money experts. This will also add pride to the teens for having invested money like what the grownups did. In addition, requiring them to pay taxes out of their investment will make the teens contributors to the national coffers.

Get a checking account
Getting a checking account will teach the teens some financial responsibility. Just imagine the teens issuing some checks for their purchases and or services they acquired. Knowing that a bouncing check would have legal repercussions, the teens will be extra careful in handling their finances.

Let them get credit cards
The feel in getting credit cards nowadays is greatly different as compared many years ago. Before, a person is jubilant when his application is approved because it proves that he is credit worthy. Today, credit card offers are numerous that it will make the eyes bulge. The teens must be extra cautious on the type of cards they will apply. The benefits are vaguely explained in the ads or in the emails when credit card companies promote these cards. Most often, actual charges and interest rates are hidden, only to make the teens sorry for just freely making purchases.

Credit cards are there to allow the teens to purchase, but they have to purchase only those things that are needed. They must avoid being compulsive buyers.

Parents have a lot to explain to their teens about money management. No matter what the teens want, the parents are in the best position to tell what is best for their teenagers. Just remember that the parents could contribute much to the success or failure of their teens. Let the teens manage their money and make them real money managers.

Connections - Manage Them Well

By Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD

We make the strongest impressions when we are confident to talk openly and directly about our wants, needs and goals. Many people are willing to help us find fulfillment, but they are unable to help us meet our objectives when they do not know we need support.

When you share your desires, dreams aspirations and goals with your friends, peers, colleagues, they may well have ideas and connections that will serve you for many years into the future.
You can captivate people’s interest by simply being honest with them about what you are hoping to achieve. It is likely they, too, have been in a position wherein they required the assistance of someone. They will undoubtedly be glad to have the opportunity to pay it forward.
You can make a strong impression on others easily by simply sharing your thoughts and feelings with them openly and directly. The stories you tell will intrigue others, ensuring that you continually have a support system and help on your journey.

In time you will find yourself connected to people eager to hear more about your long-term plans. Your chances of succeeding are heightened when you initiate conversations with a wide variety of people in all areas of your life.

Some important tips to remember in making connections:

• Follow up with every person you meet or speak with about your goals, keep in touch with all your contacts periodically. A handwritten note or email letting the person know you enjoyed meeting them is priceless today, and worth every minute. Your goal is to solidify your initial impression as a savvy person and someone to be remembered.

• Give and you shall receive. Become involved with offering to assist someone. Volunteer for a charity, which can lead to connections and the development of relationships that are not only based on building business contacts, but on helping others.

• Make connections through social events. Invite colleagues, prospects, clients, and contacts to your home to establish a more personal relationship. An invitation to a social event also creates opportunities for reciprocal invitations and introductions to others' inner circle of contacts. Host an open house, buffet, or afternoon coffee. Your event does not need to be lavish to impress. It is the invitation that counts.

Anger - Detect It, Prevent It, Manage It, Just Don't Lose It

By Benedicta Dolson

Anger is one of the most misunderstood and overused of human emotions. It is a reaction to an inner emotion and not a planned action. The feelings underlying the anger reaction make us feel vulnerable and weak; anger makes us feel, at least momentarily, strong and in control, but anger can be devastating. One moment of madness can bring about lifetime of suffering and in vain repentance. To be more specific:

• Anger sends marriages and other family relationships off-course.
• Anger reduces our social skills, compromising other relationships, too.
• Anger means losing business that you could have won in a more gracious mood.
• Anger leads to increased stress.
• We make mistakes when we are angry, because anger makes it harder to process information.

Angry behaviors are learned over the life-span and therefore can be unlearned and replaced with healthier patterns of coping. To repress anger is unhealthy and yet to express it impulsively, as we so often do, may give momentary relief but inevitably will carry negative consequences. Here comes the anger management, following are some of the anger management techniques:

• Learn to talk about your feelings - if you're afraid to talk or if you can't find the right words to describe what you're going through, find a trusted friend or adult to help you one-on-one.

• Express yourself calmly - express criticism, disappointment, anger or displeasure without losing your temper or fighting. Ask yourself if your response is safe and reasonable.

• Listen to others - listen carefully and respond without getting upset when someone gives you negative feedback. Ask yourself if you can really see the other person's point of view.

• Negotiate - work out your problems with someone else by looking at alternative solutions and compromises.

Detect and Prevent Anger

There are very distinguishable physical manifestations of anger. If you are able to discern it you can pre-manage your anger by detecting and preventing your sliding into angry state of mindset. When you are angry, you would probably feel:

• Muscle tension
• Accelerated heartbeat
• A "knot" or "butterflies" in your stomach
• Changes in your breathing
• Trembling
• Goose bumps
• Flushed in the face

You can reduce the rush of adrenaline that's responsible for your heart beating faster, your voice sounding louder, and your fists clenching if you:

• Take a few slow, deep breaths and concentrate on your breathing.
• Imagine yourself at the beach, by a lake, or anywhere that makes you feel calm and peaceful.
• Try other thoughts or actions that have helped you relax in the past.

Keep telling yourself:

• "Calm down."
• "I don't need to prove myself."
• "I'm not going to let him/her get to me."

Stop. Consider the consequences. Think before you act. Try to find positive or neutral explanations for what that person did that provoked you. Take help of the people expert in providing stress management techniques, or join anger management classes, if you think you yourself are not capable of controlling your anger. Whatever you do to manage your temper, remember one thing; only you have the power to control your own violent behavior, don't let anger control you.
Be strong. Be safe. Be cool.
