By James C

If you have small children in your home the chances are good that you will end up getting gum in your carpet. It is a tough problem to deal with but if you follow a few simple steps it can almost always be removed rather easily. Read this article and get some tips on dealing with gum removal.

To remove gum you will need a few ice cubes and a blunt instrument like a small hammer or the butt end of a butter knife. To begin you want to place the ice cube onto the gum spot. Hold it there for a minutes until the gum freezes. Once it is frozen you will strike it with the blunt instrument and pick up the pieces and dispose of them. You might need to repeat this process several times to completely remove the gum. After you have removed the largest portion of the gum you can usually then use a basic spot cleaner to remove any remaining residue. if the basic spotter does not work you might want to try a citrus spotter. Most home improvement stores will carry a citrus spotter designed for carpet. Follow either the general spotter or the citrus spotter with plain water to try and remove as much residue as possible. This will keep you from having a re-soiling problem.

Thats it. You have successfully removed a gum spot from your carpet. If the sot is severe or you do not want to deal with it you should consider calling a local carpet cleaner. They have the skills and equipment to take care of any problem.
