Foundation or Powder - Which Should You Use?

By Laura Halik

Do you want to start wearing makeup to look and feel better about your skin but don't know which makeup you should use, foundation or powder? That's a great question, however I would have to say that first and foremost, if you want to have better looking skin, it all starts with having a good skin care program along with a healthy balanced diet, drinking lot's of water, regular exercise and sufficient rest.

How well you are taking care of yourself will reflect in your skin and using makeup will not cover that up. Whether you should use a foundation makeup or a powder, the answer is you should use both, a good daily foundation to even out your skin tone and protect your skin as well as a loose powder to complete and extend your look and finish.

When choosing a good makeup foundation, look for a water-based, oil-free foundation that is light and sheer, and will look and feel natural on your skin. If you have slightly oily to acne prone skin look for a combination daily foundation and concealing cover creme for occasional breakouts and blemishes that will also condition your skin with natural vitamins and antioxidants. Next finish with a good loose powder. It is also very important to use a good loose powder as it will not only provide a complete look and finish but will also extend the life and longevity of your look and finish. As with choosing a good daily foundation, look for an oil-free, light and sheer loose powder that will look and feel natural on your skin.

If cost is a concern, know that you don't have to buy THE most expensive product to get good quality results. However, I wouldn't suggest looking for the cheapest either. Wearing inexpensive cosmetics can look and feel heavy and greasy and actually cause breakouts and blemishes.
