How to Add Humor to Your Wedding with Funny Wedding Vows

Who says a wedding has to be a somber and serious occasion? More and more couples are expressing their humorous sides at their wedding by writing their own funny wedding vows. Funny wedding vows run the gamut from personal little phrases cleverly inserted into their vows such as “I promise to always make chocolate cake for you” to wedding vows inspired by humorous writers, witty quotes and even Dr. Seuss.

There are some advantages to writing your own funny wedding vows. If you’re a light hearted, humorous couple known for your quick wit, why hide it just because it’s your wedding day? A somber wedding ceremony may not express who you really are. It’s your wedding day and you should have it the way you want it as a couple. A humorous wedding can create beautiful memories that you’re cherish for years to come and you’ll be able to say you had a truly original wedding. A wedding ceremony with a bit of humor is likely to put everyone in the ceremony and in the audience more at ease. It’s also likely to ease some of your own prenuptial jitters.

On the downside, a marriage is a serious commitment and you don’t want to downplay that in your wedding ceremony. It’s probably best to have short humorous clips in your wedding vows rather than making the entire ceremony funny. Make sure the humor is appropriate and unlikely to offend your guests.. This is not the time for raunchy, off color jokes, vulgar language, or inside humor. Be sure to select jokes that the audience can easily understand and appreciate.

The best strategy may be to sit down with your future marriage partner and recreate some of your most humorous moments together. What are your favorite jokes as a couple? What makes you laugh? Welcome To The Funny Farm (Mental Illness)

I've been in the humor business for over 50 years, so when I built my website, I knew there would be plenty of humor. But, I wanted more than that! I wanted to address other important issues in all of our lives, such as the environment; encouraging young people to stay in school; and good health care...both physical and mental health, etc.

Starting out with my idea on the Funny Farm, I had two problems. We still live in a country, filled with people of hate; discrimination, racism and bigotry! That's the sad part of it all...but true nonetheless! Age discrimination goes on all the time in this country...and discrimination against people with mental illness goes on all the time, too. The name-calling; job discrimination; the put-down in it all, which is all a shame for this country!

Frankly...because of all this, I was reluctant to open the Funny Farm, because of my fear of getting flamed...hate mail, or even being discriminated against or losing my job, etc. Isn't that a shame that a person has to feel this way, when dealing with such an important subject, which affects all of us! So, I had to proceed carefully, etc.

Going back to the Stone Age of 2003, and I contemplated all of this, I did so for about six weeks, and I went back and forth with the idea, as to whether I should go forward with the idea at all. So, I placed all of it on the back-burner for a few weeks, as I tried to make a decision on the matter. The second problem I had, was how I could blend humor with mental illness, and do it in a respectful and dignified way. Experts tell us, that being able to laugh at ourselves, at all the "crazy" and "insane" things we all do is good for us...it's therapeutic! I don't know if I had the courage to attempt this or not.

I decided to go forward and open the Funny Farm, but I would do it in a serious manner, and leave out the humor, because I frankly, didn't know what to do or how to handle it. Weeks went by, and things went well...I was not flamed nor did I get emails of hate! The opposite happened, as a few awards came down, which nourished my soul, and I was relieved that I could go forward with such an important issue.

One day, I was surfing around in the Homestead (host) clip-art library, working on an article I was writing, and I stumbled onto the cutest little straight-jackets I've ever seen! I knew right away, I was going to bring in these little straight-jackets in and put them to work. This is the point where humor would come into the Funny Farm, and I would now open the Funny Farm Gift Shop, where these little cute straight-jackets would be on display, etc. I made them "designer" straight-jackets in your favorite colors.

When I was down with hardship and heart-failure (2005), I was in a lock-down psychiatric ward myself for over three months, and it gave me great joy, when I put a smile on one of the other patient's face, which brought joy into their life, even if it were just for a few seconds! So, now I would try to blend mental illness with all the joys of humor, always remembering that I had to find a way to do it in a respectful and dignified way!

I decided not to throw a bunch of jokes in the Funny Farm, for that would be tacky, cheesy and dis-respectful! I decided to talk about the positive and healing power of humor and what clean humor means to all of us! This was my starting point in blending humor with mental illness...the benefits of humor in the HEALING PROCESS! And, by doing it this way...I was very excited about the project!

I read a newspaper article recently, whereby stress and depression in the work place are at an all-time high. No wonder...as we live in a greedy society, whereby many people can barely make it from paycheck to paycheck and can't save for the future! This is putting a lot of stress on families of all sizes! I encourage everyone to get the health-care they need...physical and mental healthcare! THERE'S NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED ABOUT!

How to Give a Funny Best Man's Wedding Speech

This is the one time in your best friend’s life when you have to make things memorable for him.
This is your job as his best man. What better way to make his wedding memorable than to dedicate a funny speech for him? After all, weddings should be fun, shouldn’t they?

This is the time to send off your friend and his partner as a married couple so make sure you tell them, “Take care, you’re on your own!” Just kidding. But hey, best friends kid a lot don’t they?

Some people would love this comment. After all, when a couple decides to get married, they’re usually ready. A big emphasis on the usually ready part, there are a lot of couples, especially young ones, who change their minds on their wedding day. So to make doubly sure that this gets the desired effect, follow up by bringing up pleasant memories the couple have shared, make a joke or two about them to lighten the mood. As the couple’s best friend, for sure you’ve heard tons of them. By doing this, you promote a warm feeling of comfort, drawing the couple closer, as well the people around them. It doubles as an invitation to everyone else to express his or her support at the reception.

Getting married also means less time for hangouts with friends and more time for the missus and the kids. Usually guys take it badly so as the best man, you should find a way to make light of this. Say something like, “We were wondering when you’d get hitched, I guess you took your sweet time finding the perfect bride. She’s so unlucky to have such an ugly husband like you.”

By telling someone how lucky he or she is, even by irony gives that person pride. This is another way of reminding people that they have more reasons to be happy than to think of things that they may no longer be able to do. Again, the most important thing is to make the couple feel that they have your support.

These are but a few of the possible things you may say as the best man during a wedding. Use caution, these are just, but examples. They may work in some cases and sometimes they might not. It all depends on how the best man knows the couple. One only has to take into consideration that this is a day a friend and his partner will start a new life as a couple. As the best man, your duty is to express your support to help them leave their doubts behind and look forward to this new life.
