How A Golden Treasure of Fruits Benefit Healthy Living

By Carole-anne Stanway

Golden colored fruits are a treasure trove of tasty benefits to healthy living. These fruits are packed full of vitamins and fiber, and notably, are low in fat and calories.

Eating papaya is like "having your cake and eating it too." Papaya is the tropical fruit which has a soft buttery like consistency when ripe. Eat healthy ripe papaya as you would melon, cutting lengthwise, scooping out the seeds, then eating with a spoon. Just half a papaya contains twice the RDI requirements of vitamin C we need and is very rich in beta carotene.

Nectarines are ready to eat when they have a deep yellow golden skin with lots of red on it. Nectarines should be slightly soft at the seam. This little gem, when ripe, should have a sweet aroma. These treasures can be eaten with the skin on and have a zingy, fresh taste. Nectarine's can be chopped and added to salad, served with meats, or eaten on their own. Nectarines healthy bonus is fiber and Vitamin C. A favorite fruit because of its portability, nectarines can be used as a healthy snack several times a day.

Cantaloupe is known for its refreshing flavor, and juicy texture. It is a melon that has an earthy aroma. Cantaloupe should be picked by heaviness for its size, and there should be no soft spots on it. Note: cantaloupes should be washed on the outside with a vegetable & fruit washer to fully cleanse the outside before cutting up, as they can carry bacteria on them. Once cleaned, scoop the seeds and middle out of the fruit. Healthy cantaloupes are wonderful with any meal and can be cut up into balls with a special cantaloupe scoop, or cut in halves and sliced into neat pieces, or peel the outside and just chop into smaller squares. Cantaloupe can be pureed and made into a summer drink by adding soda water topped with mint. Cantaloupe has many healthy benefits; vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium, plus fiber content is high.

Oranges are a favorite for almost everyone. This little treasure comes in many varieties, mandarin, Chinese, and of course, naval oranges, full of intense citrus tasty flavor. There is nothing more refreshing and healthy than eating an orange, or having a fresh glass of orange juice in the morning, which is like a little bit of "heaven".

Orange juice is used in many alcoholic drinks, such as vodka and orange, champagne and orange juice, often for brunch. Use oranges for healthy recipes; the rind puts zest in flavoring muffins, loaves, cookies, blender beverages and a host of main dish baking, such as chicken recipes, and salads.

Our treasure box is now full of golden fruits; why not use these little treasures to tantalize your taste buds, and reap the healthy benefits as well? Papayas, nectarines, cantaloupe and oranges are our natural treasures that give us a wealth of vitamins, fiber, and refreshing flavors for benefits of healthy living.

How To Be Healthy From the Inside Out!

By Mohamed Tohami

Have you ever seen a woman in her nineties with the fresh, bright face of a twenty-year-old girl? On the other hand, have you ever seen a young man in his thirties with the dull, ruined face of a ninety-year-old man?

That's right - being healthy has nothing to do with age or diet. There is an entirely different way to be healthy and stay young!

But how can it happen?

As James Allen has said, "The body is the servant of the mind."
Those are eye-opening words of wisdom! Your thoughts create your habits - so negative thoughts create negative habits, which in turn lead to a sick, weak body. Even if you follow a rigorous regimen of diet and exercise, you'll never be healthy if you let your mind be controlled by anxiety, fear, envy, and depression.

But positive thoughts create positive habits, which in turn lead to a strong body and a healthy mind that are ready to tackle any obstacle in your path.

So the bottom line is that if you want a perfect body, then work from the inside out. Guard your mind and fill it with healthy, positive thoughts.

"Out of a clean heart comes a clean life and a clean body." - James Allen

The most powerful tactic to develop a well-guarded mind is to live with passion. Doing what you love and what truly makes you come alive will make your heart flourish and fill your life with happiness, satisfaction, and purity.

Injecting passion into all that you do will help you live every day with an evergreen body full of energy and enthusiasm. Illness will have a hard time finding its way to you - and even if it does, you'll recover quickly simply because your heart, soul, and mind are passionately attached to your dream.

The smart farmer knows intuitively that the quality of his harvest depends mainly on the quality of his seeds and the soil. It is impossible to have a clean, healthy harvest without nurturing good seeds in good soil. With all its power and capabilities, technology will never be able to generate a good harvest from spoiled seeds planted in bad soil.

Feed and nurture your mind with positive thoughts, for it is the guaranteed way to living a healthy life - and indeed may be the perfect recipe for health that no one is telling you about.

Diet and exercise are important, but are secondary to a healthy mind! Don't reverse the process - work from the inside out, or you'll never get the results you want.

James Allen has said, "There is no physician like cheerful thought." Heed that brilliant advice and you'll be on your way to living a healthy life.

A Heartburn Cure For Healthy Bones

By Gilbey Scott

The body has wonderful way of curing itself. And when it receives healthy input, it does an even better job. Some of the results of this aren't apparent until later on in life. While the cure for heartburn and osteoporosis are both well known topics, there might not seem, at first glance, to be any connection between the two..

As we learn more about how the body works there is less mystery about what goes on inside. Although the general information links heartburn with certain foods and overeating, there is a bigger picture that reminds us of how interrelated overall health is.

Since the body is a very resilient entity, many of the results of poor health don't show up until much later. We have to look to older people to see hip and knee replacements, back problems and high blood pressure, and how they could be in our future. Conditions like these could have a much different ending if the warning came sooner. This how heartburn turns out to have an up side, if the message is taken.

There are other messages. The US Surgeon General recently announced that 10 million Americans suffer from osteoporosis and another 30 million are at risk. For heartburn, the number of those with symptoms, is also significant.

Diet is a factor that connects these two conditions. Essential elements like calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorous play a big part in treating heartburn because it is the way stomach acid is neutralized. Bananas, beans, kale and lots of other vegetables and fruits have the calcium and other minerals that are essential for this.

To give the body what it needs, look to the basic building blocks of nutrition: It's in the food groups. The primary source of energy for the body is carbohydrates, which is eventually broken down into sugar. Protein is used to build tissue and muscle and another fuel source. Fat is necessary for the absorption of vitamins A, D and E. and is also used to store energy.

However, a look back will show a lot has changed in the last 30 years. Consumption of fresh produce is down, our menu of prepared foods is far greater than ever before. We consume 3-5 time the animal protein that we need, which all together adds up to a lot of acid in the diet. All this spells the need for more minerals in out daily diet if we are going to have a heartburn cure.

Minerals also go toward building an environment that makes it difficult for harmful bacteria to thrive. Mom knew what she was talking about when she made you eat your vegetables. Those same vegetables help ward off osteoporosis and build strong bones. Regular doses of calcium are needed, throughout life.

The workings of the body are very interactive. Calcium stored in the tissue and bones can be borrowed if the body needs it. For good bones, a high calcium diet is the answer. Along with vitamin D and sunshine to metabolize it.

So as you can see, this shared need for essential minerals points up the need for a balanced diet. Heartburn relief may be the pressing cause but later on there will be other issues that will benefit from strong bones.

And a heartburn remedy, using natural ingredients, can compliment a good diet. So look to healing herbs and calcium rich foods for a cure. This is another way to use natural ingredients to your advantage.

There are natural ways to remedy heartburn Learn about the foods that cause heartburn and the foods that treat heartburn. Fix your problem with a natural heartburn cure.

Healthy Selfish Is Good For Our Personal Budgets

By Alice March

Healthy selfishness is a good thing. The word selfish has gotten a bad rap in our culture. The dictionary says selfish is "concerned chiefly with oneself or excessive regard for one's personal advantage or interest." Stop to think what this really means and then ask yourself, "if we don't take care of ourselves, who will?" Giving ourselves healthy attention means that we have personal living codes that include getting proper nutrition, rest, exercise and whatever we need to be productive, creative and financially stable.

I think too many of us have relinquished our selves in our financial life; we let others look out for our financial interests, by either denying our responsibility or just letting someone else do it for us. As we begin to realize that our financial shape is really a reflection of how we feel about ourselves, we have to be more than conscious and selfish about choosing a team to give us direction and support. Most of us did not have role models who showed us how to invest in ourselves and in our future. This sort of thinking didn't exist. I do remember that my mother suggested to my father, when I was in high school, that they put me on a clothes allowance. My father said that he didn't see the need for that. I wish he had. I probably would have gone through many trials and errors earlier and become more fiscally aware and more skilled at budgeting expenses.

Healthy people find mentors who are fiscally well and successful. Put a team in place, a team to help you with the present and the future of your finances. Feeling vulnerable, admitting you need help, is actually a very powerful place, for it's a place of learning and acceptance. Ask yourself if you're getting the kind of attention that makes you feel safe, visible, supported. Or do you get the kind of attention that makes you feel dismissed, ignored, unequal?

Healthy living means reducing the stress in your life. One way to do this is to think carefully about the financial questions you ask and be sure you understand the answers you get. When you're selfish enough to give yourself the kind of attention that brings you the best of support, encouragement and knowledge, you'll decrease your stress level, sleep better at night and enjoy the end of your months more!!!

Using promotional health products during your next marketing campaign can bring about enormous success and a lengthy list of benefits for your company. Since these are items that clients, prospects, and employees can actually use to improve their own lives, they are very popular choices. Frequent use of these products means that your brand will receive significant exposure, leading to new sales, improved customer loyalty, higher employee morale, and much more.

Models - The Leaders In Fashion Now Are Taking The Lead Again In The Struggle To Be Healthy

By Sacreeta Veneficus

The sad day, the Models died.

This decade will certainly go down in history, as one of the most significant movements known for women. Yes we won the vote, yes it's laughable to our youth when they hear a woman self praise for obtaining Corporate Leadership.

"That's old news, haven't women always run the roost?" Our young would say.

To which we reply. "No little one, they had to fight for that right!"

But what about image?

What about the Models, who have been tortured for over three decades by starvation, by enduring insults regarding any meat they may have on their bones, by being told to lose the weight or find another job? They must have thought the rest of us simply didn't care. What must have they thought of us for not standing up for them, for letting such travesties continue?
They had to dwindle down to a dying breed, a dying breed indeed. But no more!

London took action against anorexia, and are reformatting their Modeling criterias.

A new revolution of Models will take rebirth from the ashes of the dark cloud. That the dark ages of Fashion has ended. It sincerely is a triumph.

"Hay gals, its ok to eat now! If you don't, you can't work here!"

Now that's not a joke, and here's why.

No more under-aged Models will be strutting the catwalk in London. London says no! Although they should reconsider the age limit of 16, as that is still young, Milan is reportedly strapping the age limit to 18. England is one of the first countries to be combating the ongoing struggle that Models have faced for over three decades. The battle of anorexia.

London has announced that under-aged Models will be rejected by the agencies, infact, they are already upping the stakes.

The movement to keep their models alive and functioning healthy is actually being taken quite seriously. They are now going to be enforcing health tests on the Models, with drug testing being on the list. A few models in London have already been rejected for work due to being underweight!

Milan is also joined in the glorious fight to keep the models healthy, and now you must be 18 or over to walk the catwalk there! It is commendable that these countries are waging campaigns to encourage healthier Models, defending the welfare of these young girls.

Why now? Why the sudden change? Its like the twilight zone for Models!

A little recap over 2006/2007: It saddens me to report on these events, and my heart goes out to the girls families.

With the death of three models this year, both dying from the repercussions of starvation, the modeling world had no choice but to respond. The general public could finally stand up and ask the question lurking in the back of their minds for over thirty years.

Why does a Models weight have to be far below the level of acceptable percentage of body fat, according to their height and age?

In other words, why are you starving the girls, retiring them far too young, and believe that's Couture? Its ok, we have his attempt to justify, in the form of a public comment a little further on down the list.

It took the death of two models, sisters infact, for that question to become socially acceptable to utter! And equally acceptable for Designers and Agencies alike to comfortably address.

Back in February of this year, 18 year old Eliana Ramos, a Uruguayan Model, died in her Montevideo home. Preliminary tests pinpointed malnutrition as the cause of her sudden death, she had what they call generalized infection brought on by anorexia. She was fasting before an upcoming catwalk gig.

Her death came only six months after her older sister Luisel Ramos died in Montevideo , Uruguay , after exiting the catwalk on route to the dressing room. She fainted and died of heart failure. She was 22 years of age, and had been starving herself days before the catwalk event, so reportedly told by her father. The 180cm (approx 59) had dwindled down to 40kg (88lbs) on a diet of lettuce for over three months. At the time of her death, she had a body mass index of 14.5. (below 18 is considered to be starvation - and anything less than 22.0 to be underweight.)
In November 2006, Ana Carolina Reston, 21, who modeled for designers such as Giorgio Armani, was a Brazilian model. She died from kidney failure, brought on by starvation, the evening before an international photoshoot. She was hospitalized for three weeks, suffering from kidney failure before it finally took her life. She weighed 6 stone (84 lbs), despite she was 5ft 7.
She lived on apples and tomatoes, and would vomit anything else that she dared pass by her lips.

Didier Grumbach, the head of the French Couture Federation, says: 'To say that we should regulate just one profession among many to avoid young girls getting thin, when everything in our society encourages them to do so, is unreasonable.' (17 November 2006)

Fortunately for the rest of the world, London and Milan, who have eagerly embraced merging Fashion with healthy models, and have left the old way of thinking behind! Because they understand that society is molded by the Fashion Industry, not the other way around!

For all those aspiring Models out there, take a deep breath, have a good rest, and enjoy your dinner. Baby the world is changing for the good, and you are the youth of today, embrace it, love it and live it.

Healthy Foods Different for Women and Men?

By Vicky Lynum

The nutritional needs of women and men are different. It is important that each knows what type of food is better for her or his body.

For women, linseed is a good “weapon” against breast cancer because of its large amounts of lignans, chemical compounds similar to estrogen, that also act as antioxidants. Women who have suffered from breast cancer and added linseed to their diet have slowed the cancer spreading process, according to recent U.S. studies.

Soy is also more efficient for women because it lowers the level of cholesterol, and maintains bone health, according to a study of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition and the Department of Kinesiology of the University of Illinois. Women have a higher risk to suffer from anemia than men because of the menstruation. A low level of iron in the blood may lead to severe forms of fatigue. Lean beef is useful in these cases because it has considerable amounts of iron and gives a lot of energy.

Cabbage may have a benefic effect on women because it maintains bone health. This way, cabbage protects the body from developing osteoporosis. Beside calcium and vitamin C, cabbage also contains large amounts of vitamin K. Women can decrease by thirty percent the risk of suffering a hip fracture if they eat at least 109 micrograms of vitamin K per day, researchers found. For instance, half a cup of cabbage contains 375 micrograms of vitamin K.

Papaya is a tropical fruit that contains twice as much vitamin C than an orange and protects from vesicle diseases. Women with a lower lever of vitamin C present a higher risk to suffer from vesicle diseases, according to researchers.

5 Tips to Get Your Kids to Eat Healthy

By Brandon Johnsonn

Kids are notoriously picky eaters. If it doesn't come in a box with a cute cartoon character promoting it, then they probably aren't interested. It's important to get your children to develop healthy eating habits early on, without having to force them to reluctantly choke down something they don't enjoy. In fact, making them eat certain foods could backfire, leading to binge snacking when you're not looking and/or having a bad association with a certain food for the rest of their life.

Here are 5 tips to ensure that your child is eating healthy because they know it's good for them. Teach them early on, and they will continue their nutritious eating habits for the rest of their lives.

Teach - First and foremost, talk to your kids and teach them that eating healthy will help them to "grow up and be big and strong". Just like talks about drugs or smoking, if they know why they should do things a certain way and how it could benefit them, they are much more likely to listen.

Variety - If they've been eating lots of unhealthy foods and snacks until now, ease them into their new eating habits. For the first few weeks, allow them to continue eating a few of their favorite foods, but mix in something nutritious with the same meal. Just mixing in a sliced apple or a bowl of corn with their dinner will help to widen their palette and develop tastes for new foods.

Schedule - Stick to an organized schedule for family meals. If you have breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the same time each day, your child will be hungry at the right times and less likely to fill up on snacks and junk food.

Tastes Change - As a child, and even into adulthood, our tastes and flavor preferences can change dramatically. So, just because junior despises the taste of broccoli now, he could develop a taste for it later on. If there's a specific healthy food your child refuses to eat, reintroduce it in new ways every few weeks. In the case of broccoli, for example, try mixing it in with a salad or chicken wrap to overcome the "ewww broccoli" stereotype.

Meal Environment - Try to have all meals in an organized setting with the entire family. If you're all eating and talking at a dining table without television or other distractions, your children will view mealtime as a pleasant social experience, rather than a minor annoyance they endure in between playtimes.

Put these tips to use starting with your next meal, and you can begin building the foundation for your child's healthy lifestyle. And, don't forget to lead by example Mom and Dad!

Breast Cancer - Prevent With Healthy Living

By Michael Russell

Generally speaking, breast cancer can be explained as an abnormal growth or a mass of cells, also known as a tumor, anywhere within the breast or immediate surrounding area. Usually the breast tumor is felt to be a lumpy mass during the early stages of breast cancer. If a woman feels a lump or abnormality of the breast of any kind, she should see a doctor immediately. In many cases, there is no cause for alarm, but because breast cancer can be a killer, medical attention is highly recommended.

When breast cancer is detected early, it can be treated quickly and effectively - usually with excellent results. Quick treatment is essential because all breast tumors start off benign initially. If the tumor has not begun to grow abnormally and is removed during the benign stage, the cancer may not spread. If the cancer does not spread, the woman is able to lead a normal, cancer-free life from that point on.

As with most cancers, the exact cause of breast cancer has not been pinpointed. However, there are many risk factors applied to many women. There are many arguments that breast cancer is hereditary, so if there is a history of the cancer in a woman’s family, she should see a doctor regularly for preventative measures. While heredity may play a role, life choices do as well. For instance, women who smoke cigarettes and consume alcohol regularly are at a higher risk for breast cancer than those who do not. Additionally, obese women that do not engage in regular physical activity are at an elevated risk for breast cancer.

It has been found, however, that altering the levels of hormones in the body can lead to different forms of cancer, breast cancer included. Many women take drugs and supplements that have estrogen as a main ingredient. These medications are used to increase sexual drive, assist in lactation, or deal with menopause. There are studies currently underway to help determine the influence of increased levels of estrogen on the development of breast cancer.

Despite the exact causes of breast cancer being unknown, there are many resources explaining and suggesting how a woman might prevent it. While much of this literature is purely speculation, there are precautions all women can take including maintaining a healthy body weight. Because overweight women have a higher chance of developing breast cancer, it is a good idea to lose the fat. Also, regular visits to the doctor are recommended. However, one of the best ways a woman can monitor her breast health is by conducting the at-home exam once a month.

In addition to regular doctor visits and maintaining a healthy body weight, a healthy diet and plenty of exercise can also influence the onset, or not, of many types of cancers. Foods that contain nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants essential to preventing breast cancer include cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and legumes. Other good foods are any type of citrus, tomatoes and soy products. A diet low in carbohydrates may also be helpful.

Combining the healthy diet with regular exercise, a positive attitude and an overall healthy lifestyle may dramatically reduce a woman’s chances of developing breast cancer. By no means are these suggestions the only answer, but should be followed as part of an overall attempt at living as healthy as possible.

Five Easy Tips for Healthy Weight Loss

By Carl Walker

If you want to lose weight, it isn’t enough to simply go on a diet – you have to make a change in your entire lifestyle. This is a difficult task, and many people do more harm to themselves than good as they pursue it. Here are five tips for healthy weight loss that will help you keep your eyes on the goal.

1. Slow and Steady is Better than Up and Down
It’s tempting to jump into a diet with both feet, ruthlessly slashing your favorite foods and promising yourself that you can really live on carrot sticks and celery for the rest of your life. But sooner or later, your body is going to rebel, and you’ll binge. Then you’ll feel bad. Then you’ll give up. It’s far better to change your eating habits slowly and see steady progress.

2. Be Careful to Get Enough Nutrients
Your body needs food. It needs carbs, fats, vitamins, minerals, proteins, and roughage. Be careful that when you cut your calories, you don’t cut necessary nutrition as well.

3. Water is Your Friend
Water removes toxins from your body, keeps you refreshed and energized, and helps keep you from feeling so hungry. Many cravings and hunger pangs are actually signs that your body is dehydrated. Drink plenty of water each day.

4. Don’t Overdo the Exercise
Exercise is a vital part of any healthy diet, but if you hurt yourself, you won’t be able to exercise efficiently. Listen to what your body is telling you. Push your boundaries gently, but don’t exercise yourself to the point of exhaustion or injury. Research your exercise plan to make sure that you are not exceeding the recommended number of times per week you should do various workouts.

5. Be Kind to Yourself
It’s easy for dieters to get angry at their bodies for being so slow, for weight loss being so difficult. Try to be patient with the time it takes to lose weight and with any relapses you might suffer. Remember that the weight didn’t go on overnight, and it’s not going to disappear overnight, either.

Healthy Weight Loss - Are There Miracle Solutions?

By Nathalie Fiset

Losing weight the healthy way is a preoccupation of more than half the North American population as they are faced with extra weight. Many magazines make a fortune selling miracle diets and promising a quick and easy weight loss. Is there such thing as a miracle solution to lose weight rapidly?

Diet pills have proven in the past to pose a health threat and are not delivering the promised “easy melting” of the extra pounds. Such drastic surgeries as gastric bypass hold their loads of danger and side effects. Most diets have also failed to provide long-term healthy weight loss.

What is a person to do in order to lose weight in a healthy way then? First, she needs to consult with her physician who will access their health condition and if starting a weight loss program can be undertaken safely. Furthermore, by getting weight in the doctor’s office and realizing the weight she needs to lose, a person might get extra motivation.

What diet should a person undertake to lose weight in a healthy manner? The answer is so
simple, many people refuse to believe it. The only surefire and healthy way to eat is to eat fruits, vegetables and proteins in a balanced way. The extra weight most people have accumulated over the years come from eating processed and greasy food or food that are high in refined sugar content.

Losing weight the healthy way also requires to get back to healthy exercising habits. It is highly recommended to practice a sport or exercise at least 3 to 5 times per week for a minimum of 30 minutes every time. If a person does not enjoy exercising, she can ask around if a person in her surrounding is interested in participating in a sport. By joining healthy habits and friendship, the motivation will be greatly increased.

When starting a healthy weight loss program, a person has to realize that it took her time to accumulate the excess pounds. A healthy weight loss rate is to lose one to two pounds per week.

Although this rate may seam like a very slow one, at the end of the year it would add-up to 50 to 100 pounds!

In the effort to lower her caloric consumption, a person has to realize that her alcohol intake might account for a great part of her daily intake of energy. Hence, alcohol carries a very high caloric content and can account for many people’s “little abdominal tire”. A person does not have to live a life of saint and refuse all alcohol forever but a reasonable amount of alcohol will be beneficial for her hearth and weight.

How long does a person have to follow these rules to lose and then maintain her healthy weight?
The answer is again very simple: healthy eating habits and regular exercises should be a permanent part of our lives.

In order to find support and valuable information on healthy weight loss and weight maintenance, a person can consult specially designed web sites and participate in forums dedicated to losing weight the right way.
