DIRECTV or Dish Network - Which is Best For You?

Most of us have found the benefits of satellite television. Cable providers are expensive, their range limited and, let's face it; their programming is less than it should be. Ditto for air to ground TV (do people still watch that?). So, that leaves hungry TV viewers with the only viable option: satellite television providers. There are two providers of note, two powerhouse corporations battling for supremacy and prominence on your TV. Which should you choose, though, DirecTV or Dish Network?

The answer to that depends on your particular needs. Both satellite providers offer wide coverage, both providers offer DVRs and HD TV programming. So, which is better? Which one will fill that empty, dark television screen with sports action, drama and comedy? Who should you choose to fill your home with the "life" that only television can provide?

To start off let's establish that the technology behind providing digital broadcasting and delivering a solid product is fairly even between the two. Both providers offer great deals with the exception of their exclusive programming. They are both arguably better then the cable providers in terms of depth of programming options, technology and value.

So let's compare DirecTV to Dish Network shall we? Let's consider the contenders. In this corner, we have the still reigning, heavy weight champ, DirecTV. This company is the largest, both in terms of channels offered and in number of subscribers. Almost 300 channels of television programming are offered through DirecTV and over 90 HD channels. In addition, you have your choice of DVR platform. The Plus HD DVR is one of the most innovative devices out there right now and can even be made to work in tandem with your PC, storing and playing music and pictures from your hard drive.

In the other corner, we have the challenger, the "underdog" if you will. Dish Network is younger than DirecTV, with fewer channels and fewer subscribers. In many senses of the word, they are "less" than the competition. Dish Network, however, is the fastest growing satellite provider in the nation. They currently offer far fewer channels (both standard definition and HD) than their competitor does, but will that change? Dish Network is definitely making strides to keep up with heightened hardware deals. Should you bank on the underdog simply because they are the underdog?

While this might work well in sports, horseracing and boxing, it probably isn't a good idea where your television programming is concerned. Just because Dish Network has more potential, more growth opportunities, that doesn't mean that they are the best choice for your home. Why, you ask? Why subject yourself to a lower quality offering simply because they may or may not be the winner in years to come? DirecTV offers the best range of channels, the best HD programming and the best options where DVRs are concerned. In addition, DirecTV boasts far more exclusive programming, from insanely popular sports packages, such as NFLN (NFL Network) to March Madness coverage.

The benefits to DirecTV don't stop there, though. They offer more channel packages, a la carte programming for those "special" situations and the most forthcoming packages (case in point:
The MTN. coverage coming this fall). So, we have established who beats out the competition in every sense but growth potential. Even that is simply a numbers game, though. Growth is not necessarily indicative of true potential or even quality programming for that matter.

Sorry to be so brutal, but your business's success depends on you learning lots of new skills - including how to sell your products or services. Sales & Marketing go hand in hand. You will need to try out different marketing strategies to find out what works best for your particular business or industry. Advertising may be one of those strategies but eventually, you're going to have to start selling as well.


The reason many small business owners shy away from selling is that they're afraid the other person might say 'no'. Such rejection is one of our biggest human fears, it is also one that we have learnt over the years. If you have children, you'll have found them very good at getting what they want from you! They don't give up at the first 'no' - but will keep trying different approaches. They can teach you a lot about selling.

For most businesses, the most effective way to sell is face to face with your prospective customer. You need to be prepared to make contact several times before getting an appointment with them and even more times before you get an order!

Plan a campaign that includes leaving messages, writing letters and emails as well as what to say when you finally get the right person on the phone. Prepare carefully for meetings and learn how to write proposals. Brush up your presentation skills too. Nobody likes to be sold to, but people do like to buy - so help them make their decision by focusing on all the benefits to be gained by buying from you.

Selling can actually be fun, if you are enthusiastic about what you do, and believe that your product or service can really help solve whatever problems your prospective client is facing. After all, if you don't believe, how can you expect anyone else to?

Don't Ever Give It Up! Give It Time!

Network Marketing takes time and effort. It's not always a cake walk!
It doesn't happen overnight and you do not get rich in a few short months. As professionals we have got to stop this insane hype because it's detrimental to our industry!

Maybe this happens for a few. You know all the ones you read about in magazines who say they got a check for a bil-zillion dollars in a few short months! Then these few go out and flaunt their riches and make everyone think it's so easy!

This just isn't the reality of the industry. We've got to get realistic here. Until people start developing realistic goals, they will continue to frustrate themselves and most will quit.

With most of these stories we really never hear the behind the scenes true story of how these people got to the top so quickly do we? Trust me, there's more to the story than we ever hear in the lime light!

It took me a lot of years to get to understand what to do and to learn the business. Developing into a leader has taken time. Before you can help other people develop You've got to develop yourself. I had no business background, no corporate business background, no degrees, no contacts, and no credibility when I started. I was a stay at home mom and still am to this day!

Now I call myself a CEO MOM! It's a beautiful thing when you start to have people coming to you!

It's not been easy. I've stumbled and mumbled and made many mistakes but the one thing I have NOT done is GIVE UP!

It's a constant learning and growing process too! I have gotten checks while learning, not huge insane money, but still a very nice four figure a month passive residual income that flows in month after month for working at HOME. I always realized that I would be underpaid in the beginning and I now know what the future holds for me as I stay on the course and continue building a solid foundation!

I've been able to stay home with my kids and take them and pick them up from school and taxi them to their activities. I haven't had to work for someone else in over 14 years.

Ask people who say they quit their jobs in 6 months or a year to do Network Marketing full time really how many hours did they have to spend in the beginning to make that kind of money so quickly. More importantly, what sort of sacrifices did they have to make?

It might be a lot easier for a single guy named Joe ON THE GO with no wife, no kids, no house or yard to care for, to concentrate 16 to 18 hours a day on their Network Marketing business with no one to answer to, no kids to take to ball games, no diapers to change, babies to feed, no dinner to cook, no house to clean, no homework to help with, no groceries to shop for, no spouse to give attention to, etc.

This busy list of life goes on and on especially for women!

Because women are usually the caretakers and have not only the responsibility of building a multi-million dollar business but also the responsibility of caring for our families and sometimes that may include our own aging parents.

This isn't meant to be an excuse. Everyone's life situation is different. Many people must start in Network Marketing part-time because it's necessary for them to work it around their job or around their full-time LIFE!

Most people have a full time job and many other obligations in their lives. Even with all this anyone can still build a Network Marketing business if they really take the little precious time they do have and be patient as their business grows in time AND most of all never never never give up! Then what happens is you develop leverage which gives you the ultimate and that's FREEDOM! Just remember success always comes with a price!

Some people are just as happy with a part-time income from Network Marketing. Just remember to be realistic about the time frame involved according to your own particular situation and make sure you are sensitive to this fact in other people's lives!

When you decide that you want to change your career and start your own business and choose Network Marketing decide right then and there that you've got to give it at least 30 months of intent focus. Even if it's only ONE hour a day make that one hour count!

Just think how long people stay in traditional jobs to retirement? 20, 25, 30 years?

Then what do they have? If you do start a traditional business it will most likely take you at least 2 to 3 years to break even or maybe even longer. My husband and I had this discussion. He told me how long it would take him to start making a profit if he were to start his own Land Surveying business.

He said at least 4 years and he would have to spend a ton of money to even start his business. And if the economy goes so does his business! There's a lot of risk involved!

You also have a tremendous amount of overhead in a traditional business usually, depending on what sort of business you start. Start up cost are usually much higher than in starting a Network Marketing business.

In traditional business you still have to work hard, give it daily consistent effort, contact many many people, focus and commit, have desire, develop a PLAN, be organized, manage your time wisely....etc....the same thing we do in Network Marketing!

Find what many other people want and need. Become passionate about what you're doing. Use the products yourself so you will become passionate and enthusiastic about what you're sharing with others and WHY it's important to you. Other people will see you walking your talk!

Be patient and stick with it. Be coachable......find a good sponsor and experienced support team to work WITH you, not build it FOR you. Stayed focused and constantly stay involved in the loop. That means be on company and team conference calls to stay plugged in!

Constantly strive to be a leader! Be around successful people, watch them, do what they do, read what they read, go where they go!

Just DO IT!

Read everything you can about your company, the industry, constantly developing yourself and talk consistently about the industry to your business partners and other colleagues in the industry and of course to people in general that you meet! Don't forget to listen a lot too!

Go to every company function you can possibly get to! Go to leadership training seminars. Read books on leadership and business. Robert Kiyosaki is one of my favorites! I also love the Women's tapes from Upline and Dani Johnson, Rod Nichols, Kim Klaver, Doug Firebaugh, Jim Rohn, John C. Maxwell, Mark Gorman, and so many others that I've met and learned from over the years.

Hook up with positive like minded people who also have the desire to succeed. Join organizations like the DSWA Direct Selling Women's Alliance http://www.mydswa.org, International Virtual Women's Chamber of Commerce, http://www.ivwcc.com and other networking groups.

Look for successful business minded people in your community. Learn all you can from them and bring them into your business. If this is not for them then ask for referrals. This is what I've done in the last nine years. I've associated myself with very successful positive people and I'm sticking with them like glue! Here I am a little ole stay at home mommy working closely with people who are self-made millionaires and teaching me how to become one too!

Can you do this business alone? Yes you could, but it could be much tougher. That would be similar to being in a traditional business wouldn't it?

Remember to always think of the other person first, and ask them questions....take an interest in other people and sincerely try to help them. Building relationships is so important in this business. Whether you're online or offline always build the relationship first!

When you do people will gravitate towards you!

There are a few things that are absolutely crucial to your success in this business:

*Being consistent on a daily basis with your contacts. URGENT URGENT URGENT!!

This one is the MOST crucial of all!

Make sure you are consistent! Do something every single day for your business! No matter what! Even if all you have is ONE hour a day do something for your business! Do NOT go one day without doing something because I can almost bet you the farm that if you go one day it will turn into two, then three, then four then a week, a month goes by and you have not done anything for your business! You become discouraged, frustrated, and guess what happens?

YOU'LL QUIT! DO SOMETHING EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR YOUR BUSINESS! Even if it's answering ONE email, calling ONE person, taking your products, listening to a conference call, etc. Do whatever you can to make that commitment to do something everyday for your business! This is VERY crucial!

STAY PLUGGED INTO THE LOOP!

*Following up in a timely manner

*AND NEVER GIVE UP!

How successful you are really depends on how many contacts you actually make but you must remember to:

FOLLOW UP! You're going to get rejected too so just be ready for it! It's really a good thing...trust me. The ones that can handle the most rejection WIN.

Remember.....

This is where most people drop the ball! I've seen it so many times with people and I admit I have also been guilty of not following up when I was new to the business.

I was so afraid of the rejection! Now I welcome it! If someone says no that's ok! Just don't take it personally! If you cannot follow up in a timely manner ask one of your business partners to follow up with your prospect.

This is another URGENT MATTER! Not following up will dry up your business like the Sahara desert!

Can you imagine being a 22 year old and discovering Network Marketing as your niche, finding the right mentor, and giving it 30 months of consistent efforts with the right company, product, timing and experienced mentors? These young people can be set for life!

Could you also imagine leaving a million dollars in cash sitting on the table and getting up and walking away?!! That's what you're doing when you QUIT your Network Marketing business!

Well no matter how young or old you are you can still benefit from Network Marketing!

I am very pleased that I found Network Marketing when I did. Deciding to learn and grow through ALL the experiences, good AND bad, but most of all, never giving up no matter what, has created LEVERAGE and that my friends is the ultimate of what we're all looking for in Network Marketing!

Jesus' Parable of the Sower and Network Marketing

In Matthew Chapter 13 you can find Jesus' parable of the sower. He applies it to how people hear the message of the Kingdom and the possible results. Reading it I thought how relevant this parable was to my experience in network marketing.

Basically the story is a sower is out throwing seed around (no tractors back then) and the results of that action. Some fell on the path and the birds came and ate it up straight away. Some fell on rocky ground, some fell among thorn bushes, and some fell on good soil.

The Seed that falls on the path.

As you spread your MLM programs message around some of the message fails to even hit the listeners. They don't open your emails, they don't click your links or they have a mind set against MLM believing its 'pyramid marketing' or 'illegal' or other falsehoods.

The Seed that falls on the rocky ground.

Anyone in MLM has meet these people. They are excited to join the program, sprout quickly, ask a million questions, tell you how good they are going to do but the lack staying power because they don't create deep roots (good daily habits and hard work). As some as the sun comes out - i.e. the meet a couple of hurdles (like loosing a down line member, etc) they give up just as quickly.

The Seed that falls amongst the thorns.

We have all meet these people as well. They get swamped by the number of programs out there, either been choked by doing to many at once or they fail because the jump from program to program to program - no wonder they never experience any success.
The Seed that falls on good ground.

Anyone in MLM knows that one of these people is worth ten to hundred times more than any of the rest. They take a program and grow over time a crop of 30, 60 or hundred times.
When you are in network marketing look for the good soil. Plant your seed there and you will over time harvest a bumper crop.

Affiliates are also attracted to the company's promise to provide residual income. This means that an affiliate would market his or her link to a prospect who would either buy a product or join the company and then he or she would refer someone and so on which would potentially give the affiliate income for years to come. Affiliates make money from the products sold through their individual url links assigned to them by the company. They are responsible for marketing those links that will connect the prospect to services and products at the site.

In comparison to other networking businesses, SFI seems to have everything that any opportunity seeker would want. Unlike others, they are listed in the Better Business Bureau and can be contacted to answer questions. According to SFI representatives, SFI is not a pyramid scheme. The SFI website reports "they do not generate income solely on the process of recruiting others into a pyramid who pay a fee to get in. The Secret To Success - Choosing The Right Network Marketing Company

How do you choose an MLM company? Obviously it is important to research a company before you decide to market for them. What most people don’t understand is what they call “analyzing” a company really is not adequate. Every major company out there on the market is well established, they’re successful, they have high number of sales, and have a lot of successful marketers in their company.

So then, what makes each company stand out differently from the other? Why would you not find the same amount of success in each company? The answer is that there’s much more going on here. There are many other factors to consider that shockingly, go unnoticed and silent by most people. Most people aren’t aware of the important information about the company they are marketing for. They know about the products, they know the sales numbers, and they’ve read about the comp plan. But they don’t really know about the company itself.

It’s virtually like a home business war for distributors out there. The bottom line is, most people aren’t going to give you the straight scoop because they’re either ignorant or unwilling to let it be known that their opportunity really isn’t that great. There are a lot of great companies, but not a lot of great opportunities. That may seem like a contradiction in terms, but it’s not really.
A company can be a successful, stable company, but it may no longer be growing. Amway is a great company, but I wouldn’t recommend anyone start a business in it today, as it is long past its growth curve.

There are certain key indicators you have to look at. The key indicators you have to look at are the annual growth of sales of the company, and the number of people advancing in ranks on a monthly basis. This tells a person how the average distributor is doing, not just the “hot shots”.

Remember to look at annual data. – Try and evaluate the course the company has been on the
past few years and where it seems to be headed.

It is important to note, however, that most all brand new companies will show a higher rate of growth than others. Statistically though, these companies are more likely than not to go out of business. So typically I would not recommend a start-up company. What you really hope to find is a mature company, something that has at least 5 years of business under their belt that is currently experiencing tremendous growth. This is where the money is made in this industry.
Don’t let anyone kid you, money is made when a company is in a rapid growth curve.

Really analyzing a network marketing company should really be similar to the way an investment analyst would look at various companies in terms of investing in their stock.
However, in your case, you’re not looking at income protection. – You’ve got to grow an income! So any stock that’s just piddling along at 5% a year, you’re never going to grow an income with.

When you want to make money by investing in stocks, you don't invest in Microsoft or Coca Cola. Why? These are both extraordinarily successful companies that're doing very well. - But they are no longer experiencing growth. They're safe, reliable investments if you want to protect your money, and they'll give you a modest amount of growth. But you will never grow a huge nest egg. If however, you could've invested money in Microsoft 25 years ago, when the company was experiencing rapid growth, you'd be a multimillionaire today. Network marketing is very similar, and although they are rare, these opportunities do exist in our field.

Now, there are other factors at work here. In addition, you want a really good product that customers like to take regardless of the money, because eventually the growth curve will stop. At that point, if people were only taking the product just to make money, your business will dry up very quickly because the opportunity has ended. You want a product people love so much that once the growth of the company stops people continue taking the product. This is your residual income.

The bottom line is that there is much more to choosing an MLM company than is being made public. Check out your company, if they are experiencing rapid growth, you’ll know. – They’ll be shouting it to the Heavens! If you’re in a company and they’re not making these numbers clear, than they probably aren’t the best opportunity.

Take a company that’s growing 5% a year. In order to double your income you’d have to work 20 times better than the average distributor for a year, or work for 20 years. - Just to double your income! The truth is, most of us aren’t 20 times better than average. I know I’m not! Because average is just that, the majority. So the trick is getting involved in a company where the majority have successful, continually growing businesses.
