Globes - Perfect For Teaching Your Child About Geography

By Jennifer Akre

If your child is struggling to learn geography in school, there is hope to helping him get on track with his studies. Just turn to globes. Every night all you need to do is quiz him on what he needs to know and having that fixture in your home will make it that much easier for him to learn.

Really, globes are fabulous educational tools for teaching your child about all the important places on the planet. This is made possible because globes are 3D representations of the earth.
Pointing out all those spots, like bodies of water, continents, and countries, is a breeze since all you have to do is spin the globe around and your there. What's also great about this fixture is that your child gains a great understanding of his location and where he's at in relation to other parts of the world. Like, if you're family lives in Idaho and he's learning about a country in Asia, he will see that it is halfway around the world.

There are even globes that make learning fun because you can get ones that light up and others that are raised relief. They allow you to put an interesting twist on the lesson. For example, you could teach your child about the different countries in the world in the dark since the globe can illuminate the whole room. The ones that are raised relief actually have bumps on them, so your child can see and feel the difference in elevation, which is pretty neat when you're trying to keep them focused and on task.

Along with being a practical educational tool, globes also have an attractive quality to them. How so you might be thinking? Well, it is because they are made out of stunning materials that create globes that are extremely pleasing to the eye. For instance, the raised relief globes are generally crafted from wood that has a lovely cream base, which is then has the world detailing screen printed right on them.

Or, you can get others that are made out of beautiful gemstones, yes, gemstones, the same stones that are used to make jewelry. What also adds to a globe's beauty is how it can be mounted on other gorgeous materials. Like, wood that feature different finishes along with metals like silver and gold.

When it comes down to it, there are just a lot of different globes to choose from and for an easy way to check them all out, just hit the internet for some online shopping. In the blink of an eye you can compare products and their prices, and when you decide on something you like, it will be shipped right to you. Talk about being convenient since you didn't even have to step outside of your home to get what you wanted.

So, if your child is struggling with geography in school, help him out at home with classic globes. They are a great educational tool and a sure fire way to make sure he gets back on track in the classroom.

Author Jennifer Akre is the owner of a wide variety of niche furniture and accessory sites dedicated to providing online consumers with both products and information. Here, she offers valuable advice when purchasing fabulous gemstone globes, luxurious globes, and stunning Replogle globe.

The Cleveland Way - The Perfect Walk?

By Alan Moore

Maybe you're a walker looking for something a little different. Or, maybe you happen to be staying in Whitby and have indulged in too many fish and chips (washed down by some excellent real ale!) and need some exercise to prevent that feeling of guilt. If so, the Cleveland Way might just be the ticket!

While many visitors are more than happy just to enjoy walking around the towns, villages and beaches of the Yorkshire coast, those with a more adventurous bent can stretch their legs along the Cleveland Way.

One of twelve paths designated as National Trails, the Cleveland Way stretches in an arc from Helmsley, near the foot of Sutton Bank, up to Saltburn on the coast. The Cleveland Way then follows the coastline all the way down to Filey, providing a total of 109 miles of scenic and varied walking.

The route is divided up to provide around 10 days of walking, but for those with more modest ambitions (or legs!) it is divided up into enough smaller sections to make a two-three hour circular walk possible in a number of locations up and down the coast.

The Way itself covers a huge variety of terrain - from purple heather-covered moorland to traditional farmland and of course includes some spectacular coastal scenery - including cliffs, sandy beaches and some very steep paths which join them all together!

If you feel like a walk while you are in the area, a quick visit to the nearest tourist information office will usually yield some walk routes, and they will almost certainly include some bite-sized sections of the Cleveland Way.

Alan Moore invites you to join his free email newsletter The Whitby Bite: http://www.dracula-in-whitby.com/whitby-bite.html where you can learn more about the real Dracula and his connection to Whitby, Yorkshire's unique vampire town.

There Is Never the Perfect Time

By Ron Ulrici

Are you living with a jerk? Have you been plotting secretly for a long time to kick him out or just leave yourself? I bet that you have been waiting for that perfect moment. It's when he has pushed your buttons one too many times. Maybe it's when he's gone for the weekend.

But, that moment just doesn't happen. Just when you are about to walk out that door, he brings you flowers. Don't you hate it when that happens? At the last moment, Mr. Hyde turns into Doctor Jekyll in front of your eyes.

So what do you do? You melt, of course, and give him a reprieve. Down deep, you know that you have sold out. You pretend that he is changing; maybe this time is different.

Chances are - he is not changing; he is tuning into your frequency. He knows your vibes and has made a move to preserve his living conditions. You have fallen for it one more time.

Tired of being on this merry-go-around? There is no perfect time. It is rarely easy. You know what needs to be done. Don't just think about it, write down a plan.
  1. Write a specific goal - I will move out by the end of October.
  2. Mark the date on your calendar.
  3. Tell a friend. Ask her to hold you accountable.
  4. Prepare - pack, furniture, finances, etc.
  5. If you've completed #4, leave earlier than planned!
Who am I to tell you all of this? Where do I get off? Well, my dear, I was the jerk to another woman like you. I was actually a drunken bastard who milked the situation for 23 years. When she was finally ready, she skipped steps 2, 3 and 4 and just left. In retrospect, I think that her plan was the easiest scenario.

If he is still around while you are packing, there may be too much time to reconcile; too much time for him to use his wiles on you. Besides that, it is too painful a process. It is so much less painful for you if he comes home to an empty house.

In the meantime, attend Al-Anon and read "Codependent No More." Your happiness depends on it.

Fresh Flower Bouquets - A Perfect Gift

By Bethany Isabell

The whole idea of presenting near and dear ones with gifts is a phenomena extremely old. People are pampering their friends and relatives with gifts from time immemorial. The whole idea of giving gifts originated from the fact that one must not only love a person, but also express his feelings about him. The feeling of being loved and cared for is a feeling that really charges up a person and works as a tonic for the tired heart. Easy, therefore, to understand why the practice of giving gifts is an activity that has been carried on for ages now.

And when it comes to giving gifts, then one item that has always been in demand is the flower bouquet. It is easy to understand why. Fresh flower bouquets are liked by everyone. There is something in its fragrance that brings smiles to everyone's lips. Needless, therefore, to say that flower bouquets are gifts that can be given to anyone and on any occasion. Whether the occasion is that of a marriage, a birthday or an informal get together, one can bank on bouquets to do the trick.

Flower bouquets can also be a very worthy gift on occasions when one cannot attend the function. All that he needs to do is to order fresh flower bouquets for the concerned person. And he will see that his absence would be forgiven. Indeed, a bouquet of flowers is just the right gift to get your absence excused. No wonder then that bouquet of fresh flowers are in great demand in the UK. Another reason for their extreme popularity throughout the country is the fact that they are available in a large variety and in various price ranges, which gives people ample opportunity to select their favourite, keeping in mind their budget.

Thus, it becomes clear that as long as the relations and feelings last, people would continue giving gifts to each other; and as long as the convention of giving gifts is there, flowers and flower bouquets would hold a special place amongst people.

Perfect Wealth Formula – G.I.C. vs. MLM

By Regis Ross

Today, many of us want to gain financial freedom by starting a home based business. If someone wants to achieve this through MLM, they may be wasting their time by working with a system that is very hard to duplicate. If you have had this experience, you know how frustrating MLM can be.

When you decide to start a home based business, the bottom line is you want to stay at home and make an income to have a better quality of life. If you join an MLM business, you may be working the same amount of time or more for an unsatisfactory income just as you were with your regular job. Like many of us, you want to make a substantial income rather than just having enough to get by each month. You want this kind of income to continue month after month and year after year.

The following are the usual challenges one faces when working with MLM:

• You need thousands of members to make a significant income
• There are large drop out rates
• Small Commission Checks
• MLM is hard to duplicate

Now there is a new concept that has had positive results and has helped many people generate a large income. This concept is called G.I.C. which stands for Generate Immediate Cash. G.I.C. is not a company or an opportunity. It is the solution to a long time problem of small paychecks and shrinking downlines. When you join a company that is a G.I.C. concept you can generate thousands of dollars immediately.

In a traditional MLM, if you were to build an organization that made you $4000 a month, you would have to build a downline of hundreds or thousands taking at least a year to get that kind of commission. With a G.I.C., you can do this with a few people and get immediate results. Also with MLM, you start making small commissions if any and you have to wait to be paid.

In a G.I.C., the immediate flow of income generated makes the dream of working from home a reality. This type of business concept is becoming more popular because of the high incomes that can be made. Most of these G.I.C. models are used in a 2 up plan. The product or service that is marketed is sold at a higher price roughly around $1,500 - $3,000, and then you are immediately paid a higher commission of around $1,000.

The main concern network marketers have with the 2 up G.I.C. is the disadvantage of not having a residual income. In 2 up programs, you can’t leverage your people to become your money making affiliates. When you bring in someone who makes a sale or 2 a day, you only get their first two sales and not any more. You lose money on all their future sales and they now are your # 1 competitor.

One G.I.C. company I strongly recommend is Perfect Wealth Formula. Out of all the programs I have joined, Perfect Wealth Formula is the best online business around. The payout structure allows members to earn immediate cash flow and leverage yourself while building a residual income. There are no more downlines, plus members will always earn bonus overrides from their second level affiliates.

When you join for $1,697 at the Silver Level with Perfect Wealth Formula, members can immediately earn $400 and $1,000 on every direct sale, plus $100 and $200 immediately in bonus overrides from the second tier. You will also get the Bronze Level Marketing System free. When you join for $697 at the Bronze Level, members can immediately earn $400 on every direct sale, plus immediately get $100 in bonus overrides from the second tier. As you can see, this is a better commission structure than 2 ups and MLM programs.

Home businesses are more popular today than ever before and Perfect Wealth Formula is the place to be whether you're new to internet marketing or an internet marketing expert. The days of building a downline are over and the competitors are beginning to feel the effect. With the arrival of this revolutionary new marketing system, MLM companies are at a serious disadvantage. If you want to make a substantial income from home, then G.I.C. is the way to go.

Pond Designs – Create the Perfect Koi Pond

By Amy C

Koi pond designs are a bit different from your normal backyard pond. First of all, if Goldfish were the ‘normal people’ of fish, then Koi would be the picky celebrity.

They’re gorgeous and amazing to watch, but they require a bit more care than Goldfish or other pond fish. You will need a large enough area for the Koi to swim in. This requires a larger and deeper pond than you would otherwise need.

You will also need better filtration, because these picky guys are sensitive and won’t be able to survive in a pond that doesn’t have filtration. They also require deeper water. For your Koi pond, you will need to use smoother rocks on the sides and bottoms, because your picky fish are also curious and rooting fish. They have a big risk of getting injured if you have sharp or pointy rocks.

Smooth rocks will help them keep from getting injured when they are rooting or spawning on the bottom of your pond. You will want to take some sort of precaution against raccoons, as they will happily stand in your pond and munch on your beautiful fish. There are all sorts of things available for this, such as nets or motion detectors.

One of the most popular Koi pond designs is a Japanese or Oriental design, although there are many different kinds of pond designs you can go with. The shape, style and surrounding plants are all up to you. Some people choose to get an architect to draw plans for their Koi pond designs.

It’s essential to make sure you get it the way you want it. Koi will live for decades, and you want to have your pond the way you want it so you don’t have to change it.

A Koi pond that features a waterfall can be very beautiful. There are different options you can go with for your Koi pond designs, and many different waterfall or fountain options as well. A few other things you want to make sure of is that you feed your Koi on a regular basis.

Unlike goldfish, Koi will not survive if they are not fed daily. You will also want to maintain your pond a little more regularly, and keep it free of leaves or floating debris. Your picky celebrity fish so cannot have trash floating in their home.

Keep these things in mind, and your Koi will live and thrive in your pond.

Jazz Guitar Strings - The Right Ones For That Perfect Sound

By Brian Trainer

Serious jazz players are quite particular about the jazz guitar strings they choose and use. They expect the exact sound they want. There are different kinds of jazz guitar strings available with reputed manufacturers like Thomastik-Infeld, D’Addario, Elixir, etc. Finally it all boils down to choosing the jazz guitar strings that sound just right for the user.

Types Of Jazz Guitar Strings

Flatwound – probably the most popular for Swing. These are usually flat ribbon wound strings with a polished nickel surface giving the player the flexibility and the kind of smooth sound that is expected.

Roundwound – for BeBop jazz. While several jazz players don’t really go for roundwound strings, manufacturers like Thomastik-Infeld have wooed jazz players with the way they manufacture these. These strings are dense, although of thin diameter and play wonderfully at high frequencies, so much so that the tone has the purity of piano notes.

Most high quality jazz guitar strings are crafted with a core of carbon steel rather than the usual hex cores. This makes them play better and also vibrates well without the ‘preferred motion axis’. These string ends are wrapped in silk to keep the winding intact and to also increase their life.

For those who play blues jazz - and practically everyone who plays jazz does play the blues – the flatwound chrome strings they use are the most preferred. This is because these strings do not create the finger noise associated with other strings, resulting in easy play and better style. But the half round wounds are also popularly used, as they seem smoother and there is more clarity of sound with them compared to flatwounds, making them sound great when playing the blues.
Making The Choice For Jazz Guitar Strings

It is vital, as any jazz guitar player knows, to choose the strings that work best for you, and also make sure you replace them properly when necessary to avoid your guitar detuning. The main things to remember in making your choice are: the brand you select, the composition of the strings, string gauge, and the type of winding.

As far as brand is concerned, you can try a few and choose the ones you feel most comfortable with. As mentioned earlier, the most reputed are Thomastik-Infeld, D’Addario, Elixir, and others.

Guitar strings are usually composed of a core high carbon steel wire with a wrap wire wound around them, which influences the sound of the guitar strings. This material could be nickel, considered the best, or stainless steel for brighter tones, or phosphor bronze for a warmer sound mostly used in acoustic guitar strings. Most classical guitars have nylon strings.

String Gauge refers to the diameter of the first and last guitar string since most guitar strings are sold as sets. Jazz guitar string sets are usually available as .012 – 0.054-inch diameter, which is heavier than those used for other music styles, so that they result in a thicker tone with increased sustain. Most jazz guitarists just starting out to play use lighter sets to first get used to them and then move on to the heavier type. It should be borne in mind that as you progress to an advanced playing level, and switch to a string set of heavier gauge, you must also adjust your guitar neck and the intonation. The roundwound type of strings have a louder and brighter sound while the flatwound type has a flat ribbon wire with duller, smoother sound. Most jazz guitar strings are of the flatwound type.

Some Jazz Guitar String Maintenance Tips
To get your jazz guitar strings to last longer, remember to wipe them down using a dry cloth after each playing session. It is better to replace your strings just as they begin to wear out. Preferably change the entire set since changing just that one broken string can lose the sync of your sound.

Practice Does Not Make Perfect in Youth Football, More Effective Practice Methods

By Dave Cisar

While there are many great youth football coaches out there, I see some very poor ones as well. The poor ones do not hold the players accountable to a perfect standard in football practice on something as basic as a football stance or formation alignment, yet they seem to be frustrated and amazed when their kids are in poor stances or alignments during games.

The old adage “Practice Makes Perfect” is baloney; you can practice the wrong technique or with no technique 6 days a week 3 hours a day and never get any better. The correct adage should be; ”Perfect Practice Makes Perfect”. This is one of the facts revealed in the 2 year study I did of youth football programs, there WAS NO CORRELATION TO AMOUNT OF PRACTICE TIME AND WINS. Some of the worst teams I studied practiced more than the great teams I studied. Why? Practice Priorities, Technique and Holding the kids responsible to a perfect standard.

Some things EVERY youth football player should be held accountable to:

Listening with complete focus when asked to do so
Attending practice and games
Hustling when on the field at all times
Respect for themselves, the coaches, their team mates, officials and opponents
Proper care of football equipment issued
Good sportsmanship
Obedience to the coaches on field requests
Perfect StancePerfect Pre-Snap Alignment
Correct identification of responsibilities on all offensive and defensive snaps for their particular position
Correct first step for their position on all offensive and defensive snaps
Perfect Crab Block
Perfect fit on form tackle
Perfect fit on base block
Ball Fakes must be carried out 20 yards downfield
Correct ball security (Fumbling is OK as long as they are holding the ball correctly)
Knowledge of what special of what special teams, offense and defensive teams they are onKnowing the play naming conventions

It is extremely important to make sure this accountability is communicated and enforced day 1.
If you try and enforce a perfect standard once a lower standard has been allowed (which is an endorsement of the lower standard in the kids minds), the battle will have already been lost.

Youth football players and people for that matter will only perform to the level you expect or hold them accountable to. If you have low or no standards, low performance is the result you will get every time.

An example: One of my pet peeves is the running back stance in my offense, it is very specific and very easy for anyone to do. It is a key reason why my offense works and is so deceptive and there are just a handful of coaching points to it. Yet every year I get film of teams with kids not getting down correctly into that stance.

In my own practices, if we see our backs not in the correct stance we just have him go to the end of the line, he does not get the ball on that practice rep. If we are running our football plays out on air and I catch one of our backs not in the correct stance, I call his name out, say “Bad stance” and shout the name of another back to take his place in the rep. We never snap the ball if any of the backs are in a bad stance. In games we may make mistakes, but we will always be in good stances and in perfect alignment. You can do the same if you hold your players accountable.

Hold players accountable to things they can choose to do or choose not to do. Then praise and reward positive choices and provide them incentives or disincentives to make the right choices.
Perfection for many if not most coaching points are choices that require little to no athleticism on the part of your players. Success in youth football is really a choice for most youth football players and teams.

Choosing the Perfect Engagement Ring

By Anita Marks

Guys, this guide’s for you! So you’ve finally decided to take the plunge and propose to your sweetheart. Now comes the hard part: choosing her engagement ring.

An engagement ring is probably the second-most important purchase you’ll ever make (your house being the most important), so you need to choose wisely. This guide will help you make that choice and will hopefully result in you wooing her with the perfect engagement ring.

One word of caution before we begin: The perfect ring is probably the one she chooses herself. Who has a better idea of what she’s looking for, than her? I know what you’re thinking, it’s not very romantic to give her an “IOU for 1 engagement ring” when you propose, but buying a ring together can be just as romantic as surprising her with one. It’s all in the delivery.

One way to get around this problem is to present her with a stone when you propose. Then once she accepts she can choose the engagement ring setting herself. For more information on choosing the right stone, see our handy guide.

For those of you who’ve decided to do it the old-fashioned way, with a ring on bended knee, the following tips will put you on the right track.

Determine Your Budget: Before you go shopping, figure out how much you can afford to spend. The standard used in the diamond industry is two months salary. Depending on your situation, this may be a reasonable place to start.

Do Some Reconnaissance: Like all good soldiers you’ll need to do some reconnaissance before you go into battle. What color metal does she like? Yellow (gold) or white (silver)? What’s her style of jewelry? Is it modern or classic, flashy or understated? If you’re uncertain, note down the designs of her rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. You’ll be able to use these designs to determine her favorite style later.

A creative way to find out what she likes is to go window shopping together. Tell her you’re looking for some earrings for your mom or a new watch and steer her through the engagement ring aisle. But be discreet! You don’t want her to steal your thunder.

Choose the Metal: If she prefers yellow metals, yellow gold is the ideal choice for her. If she prefers silver metals, you have a choice between white gold, platinum or titanium.

If you’ve chosen gold, you’ll need to choose the purity or karat (kt). Gold comes in three purities: 10kt, 14kt and 18kt. 10kt gold contains 41.67% pure gold, 14kt gold contains 58.33% pure gold and 18kt gold contains 75% pure gold. The higher the purity, the more expensive the ring, so you need to factor this into your budget.

Platinum and titanium are 95% pure, so you don’t need to make any choices about the purity of these metals. For more information on the different metals, check out our Guide to Choosing a Metal.

Choose the Stone: A diamond seems to be a no-brainer, but some women these days prefer other gemstones in their engagement rings. Rubies, sapphires, emeralds, tanzanite, tourmaline, and aquamarines can be just as stunning as diamonds and they have the added benefit of costing less. If you're set on diamonds, make sure you check out our Guide on Choosing a Diamond.

Once you’ve decided on the type of gem, you need to select the size, shape and cut. Gems come in all kinds of shapes, including round, oval, square, rectangle, pear, heart, the list goes on.
What’s important here is to choose a size and shape that fits with your sweetheart’s hand.

Longer gem shapes work better on longer, slimmer fingers, but a setting that's very delicate will get lost on larger hands, making the ring look smaller. Round and square shapes work better on shorter fingers. An elongated shape such as an oval or marquise make shorter fingers look sleeker but be careful not to overdo the look.

The kinds of gems your significant other wears now will give you an indication of what looks good on her fingers.

Choose the Setting: After you've chosen your stone, next comes the setting. Since you’ve already decided on the type of metal, you’re almost done! Those notes that you took about her favorite jewelry style will come in handy now. If she likes a “busier” look, you might want to go with an engraved band. If she likes a simpler look, go with a simple band. The length of her fingers will give you an idea of how thick the band should be, the longer the finger the thicker the band, usually.

The setting of the gem is the final choice. There are three main settings: the solitaire, which features the single gem set on the band with a number of prongs (the less prongs, the less cluttered the look); a solitaire with sidestones built into the band; or the three-stone setting, which features the main gem surrounded by another gem on either side. The choice of setting is down to the type of style you think she's going to like and how much you're willing to pay.

Determine her Ring Size: There are a few ways to find out her ring size. Does she ever wear a ring on that finger? While she’s not wearing it you could take it to a jeweler to size it, or if you don’t have much time you can trace the inside of it on paper and take that to a jeweler for sizing.
Is she a heavy sleeper? Wrap a piece of paper or string around her finger and measure that.
Once you've got the length you can check out our sizing chart to determine the ring size.

Get a Second Opinion: Once you’ve decided on the perfect ring, seek a second opinion from a trusted source. It could be your sweetheart’s mom, sister or friend - just make sure they can be trusted with your big secret. Getting advice from your future mom-in-law is a great way to bond and you’ll be getting premium insider information too!

Buy from a Quality Jeweler: Make sure you purchase from a reputable jeweler who offers a solid return policy. Make some calls, read their customer feedback, ask them a lot of questions. By going with "mom and pop" jewelers and avoiding the big chains you’ll get better service and quality, since many of the big retailers sacrifice quality for quantity.

Plan Ahead: Selecting the ring, ordering it and having it delivered will take time. Saving up to pay for it will take time too. And if you want to have it engraved, you’ll also need to factor that in. Get started early so that you’ll have plenty of time to do it right.

Summertime is a Perfect Time for Rituals

By Nina Amir

It's getting hotter and the days are getting longer. Memorial Day has come and gone, so it must be summer. While most of us look forward to summer vacations, June, July and August also provide great months for creating and performing any number of fun, interesting and spiritual rituals.

Don't let the fact that you haven't ever performed a ritual stop you. And if you have performed rituals previously, summer's a great time to come up with creative new ways to take them to a deeper spiritual level.

So, why is summertime the perfect time for rituals making and performing? Because the warm and bright mornings beckon to us to come out with the chirping of the birds and celebrate the rising of the sun, the blooming of the flowers, the beauty of the natural world around us. The equally warm and late evenings allow us time after our daily chores or work to light a candle or a fire and to join in the crickets' song and to look up at the heavens and feel our connection to the universe and to God.

Yes, the weather and the length of the days give us amply opportunity to take a few minutes or a few hours to create and perform whatever rituals we like. Here are four examples of rituals you can try this summer.

1. Greeting the dawn: Begin getting up earlier in the morning, going outside and greeting the day with a ritual. You might want to have a tea ceremony. Or go into your garden and sit and meditate. Then cut some flowers and bring them inside with you. Place them on an altar, light a candle and offer up an intention for the day. Or simply go outside right after you awaken, stretch to the sun, touch your toes (or the ground, if you can) and then turn around stopping to acknowledge each of the four directions. Before you go back inside, recite aloud a list of things for which you feel grateful.

2. Four Elements Release Ritual: Go to the beach (or a lake) and have a bonfire. Before you light the fire, offer an intention that you are creating this fire for the purpose of releasing the old habits, patterns, issues – whatever you no longer want or need – from your life. Then, on a piece of paper, write down all the things you want to release (debt, eating disorders, health problems, bad jobs, etc.). Fold up the paper and before placing it in the fire, say, "I now release these to the Universe or God. Something better is now coming to me for the highest good of all concerned."

Take a moment to look at the smoke rising from the fire. Say aloud, "This smoke is now cleansing me of those things I do not want and raising my desires to a place where they will be made manifest." Now take some breadcrumbs or pieces of bread and go though this same list while throwing them into the ocean one by one. Be sure to recite the intention before you begin and the affirmation when you are finished. Last, find enough rocks to represent each of the things you want to release, go through the same basic process as before but this time bury each rock in a shallow hole you dig in the sand. When you have released your unwanted issues to the four elements, simply say, "So be it, so it is."

3. Offering up Gratitude: Before you go to bed, go outside and sit somewhere where you can see the stars. Light a candle, and while staring at it's brightness in the dark of the night, feel appreciation for the light it offers. As you fix your gaze on the flame, begin reciting all the things you are grateful for that occurred during the day. Imagine them rising with the flame, reaching upwards, as if your gratitude is being handed off to the darkness by the tip of the flame. When you are done, look up at the stars. (It's easiest to actually lie down.) Gaze at the stars and try to feel what it is like to be on a planet – the Earth – hurtling through space. Try to get the feeling of this planet being such a small part of the greater Universe. Feel grateful for being a part of that larger whole and for the forces of nature – or God – that keep your planet safe, and, therefore, you safe. Feel awe and wonder for the vastness of this place you call home. Then, offer up a prayer – of gratitude, or petition.

4. Planting Ritual: Each time you place a plant in a pot or in the ground, or throw some seeds into the earth, imagine that you are planting a seed of change as well. If there is a particular change you desire, voice your intention to create that change as you plant the seed. Then, every day, talk to your seed (seedling, plant) about that change and how you plan on creating it. Speak of the steps you have taken or plan to take that day. Be sure to nurture the plant with water and fertilizer and generally to care for the plant in the same way that you are nurturing and caring for your change.

Practice Makes Perfect - But Only If You Practice Correctly

By Terry Jenkins

Most golfers completely waste their time and their money when they visit the driving range.
Don't get me wrong! I have nothing against driving ranges - they are great places to practice your golf.

But you have to practice properly!

Whenever I go to the range, I see golfers thrashing away at ball after ball - until their bucket is empty.

Towards the end of their "session" they hit some good shots - and are convinced that they are improving! But when they get out on the course, the good shots are few and far between, and their time at the range was wasted. After all, golf is about what you score on the course!

Here is the correct way to make use of the driving range...

The warm upSwing a club back and forth in a relaxed manner to warm up your muscles. Then swing two or three clubs in the same way - until your muscles are ready for action.

Groove your swingHit just a few shot to groove your swing. Start with three or four wedge-shots and move through to the longer clubs - 9, 7, 5, 3 wood, driver - hitting just a couple of shots with each club.

Now you are ready for some proper practice!

The PracticeInstead of just hitting ball after ball like a metronome, as most people do, you should make your time on the range RELEVANT to your time on the course.
The best way to do this is by playing an "imaginary" course on the range.

So - select your driver and imagine that you are standing on the first tee of any course you like - make one up if you prefer (we all have some golf-course designer in us!). Now choose an area of the range to represent the fairway - picture trees on the left and water on the right - or whatever! And play your first shot. If you hit the "fairway" give yourself a pat on the back - and start planning your approach to the green! If you miss the fairway - start thinking about a recovery shot.

Now select a club for your your second shot. Maybe it's a mid iron to your your "imaginary" green, or maybe you are just chipping back to the fairway from the rough. Either way, choose a spot on the range, select your club and play your shot. Just like you would do on a real golf course.

If you hit the "green" with your second shot, move on to the next imaginary hole!

Play your way around the imaginary course and you will be replicating real golf far more closely than just thrashing away at a bucket of balls. Hitting shot after shot gets you into a rhythm, and although you will hit some good shots that way - it is nothing like real golf, where you never have a chance to get a rhythm going!

By all means, use the thrashing method if your are working on a particular aspect of your swing - but don't use it to practice for the golf-course!
